Anyone know any reasonably priced large choppers, 9-10” long, 1/4” thick?

I am close to buying a BK-9. I like the price, but I really want 1/4” thickness. Are there any manufacturers out there in the Becker price range doing 1/4” steel for a large chopping knife?

A Khukuri is my go to chopper. Way thicker than 1/4". You'll be hard pressed to find a better chopper.

Kabar 1277 large heavy bowie
Ontario Ranger RD9
Ontario Spec Plus gen II SP49 through SP53 are all 1/4" thick and 8" - 9" long.
Condor Hudson Bay is 8" and change long.

Hello,

The Ontario spec plus sp50 and sp51 would work well. They go for about $75 almost 9" long and. 25" thick. One is full flat grind and one is ¾ flat grind I think but the same profile. The Ontario spec plus sp52 is another nice chopper but has a little different shape. Its 9½" long and .25" thick ($80ish). My brother has the Ontario marine raiderand he like it alot. Its about 10" and. 25". He paid $50.

Check them out,

Chris

I have a few choppers in 1/4inch and I still really like the BK9 ,I don`t grab it everytime but it takes some hard use that I don`t like to expose my more expensive knives to.
Buy one and try it ,if you go easy on it you can sell it for a few dollars less than you paid and only spend a few bucks for the knowledge. By the way I never think of it as "thin" when I use it .

Ontarion Spec Plus Gen II several knives of different shapes the fit the description. The original Spec Plus line also has some goodies

For $57 to your door, you'd be hard pressed to beat the Ontario Knife Co Spec-Plus SP8 machete. It is 1/4" thick, made in America & is a friggin chopping machine. It is IMHO, one of the best buys & bang-for the-buck that there is, for a hard use knife. I love mine.

why does your SP8 look so pretty?! Mines beat to hell and you're right it's a BEAST. Bought one for myself and my brother, processed ALL of our firewood on our weeklong bushbinder. My brother actually demolished a cynder block we'd found on the beach with 2 swings, it's just a beast. great draw knife too and has a deep choil to get up close for finer workings (feather sticks)
