Anyone know knives with hidden/non-obvious opening systems?

I have taken a recent interest in knives that can be opened in a non-obvious way (no visible thumbstud, flipper tab, nail nick, etc).

Some examples I already know of:

Stan Wilson Non-Flipper Flipper
Corrie Schoeman L-usion

But that's it. Any suggestions? I'll consider anything, even framelocks :D

Thanks in advance!

There are quite a few bolster release autos out there. Most of them tend to be double action, but I'm sure there are some that aren't.

My Matt Diskin Fire is a dual-action auto with a hidden spring release. Microtech has used a similar arrangement on several models (ie the Lightfoot LCC).

Pro-tech has a Mike Allen bolster lock design under the "Whiskers" moniker. They come in a variety of setups material-wise. Most of the big online knife retailers carry them.

Ted beat me to it. The Imperial Trick knife is great.

I prefer the stainless one... it'll set you back all of 10 bucks on the bay.

I have the H&K Scorch... it's a DA scale release that's fun.

Thanks for all of your recommendations guys!

I would love to get an automatic, but unfortunately it is illegal where I live :/

@Blues

I checked out some front flippers, looks like the right type of opening. Thanks man

the spydero meerkat uses the scales to unlock, they are discontinued but pop up from time to time on ebay

Paragon Warlock is pretty unusual, but more or less a gravity knife by my understanding of the mechanism so a no go for alot of people.

CRKT also used to make Gallagher Glide Locks. Neat idea, like many they license, but given quality issues I didn't buy one.

I was about to say that but couldn't remember the name some reason I was thinking gremlin

The Meerkat (in the video above) immediately came to mind. I never owned one but I bought one as a gift for a co-worker when he retired. I messed around with it before giving it to him and I admit the opening was befuddling.

My dad bought me an Imperial trick knife when I was very young (30+ years ago). Loved that thing. Lost it long ago, but found one in a Pawn Shop last year for a dollar. Brought back many memories. One of the best picks I ever found.

Yeah, I wish I had the money and time to take one to New York and get arrested just to prove a damn point. It's obviously a gravity knife and would just as obviously pass the stupid wrist-flick test with flying colors.

Yes CRKT showed off the Fulcrum 2 with a bolster slide release. It isn't an auto so that's a plus for you. Check out the web for video, it looks fun...I'll be getting one for sure.

Buck paradigm has a visible flipper but that alone won't open the knife. The bolster needs to be moved to release the locking bar.
