Took off for a hike today, just me and the pooches, and came across a nest in a rotten tree and wondered if anyone could ID it for me ?

Anyway a few pics from before I found the nest......

We soon came to one of my favourite secluded rest spots....

The Pooches were dissapointed when I told them I had no Milk-bones, but soon perked up when I said I had Scooby snacks !!!!

Everytime I touch up my Bandicoot I try and thin the convexed edge a little more, it now cuts 100% better than it did with the standard edge !

Anyway we set off again and that's when I found this nest.....

It seemed fresh as the mud inside was wet !

When we arrived back at the parking lot it was time to expose my milky white skin to the suns rays for the first time this year !!!!!

Good pics as usual. Not sure about the nest, there are quite a few birds that use mud like that, not sure what you have up in Vancouver though. Oh and I am a fellow pasty white guy :D Mixed with the crazy heat we get here, it's not a good combo. Damned Scotch ancestry!

That's funny T first I thought you where talking about that thing hanging down between his legs...

How big is the nest?
She Who Must Be Obeyed thinks it could be a Magpie nest being in your area.
She is researching it now. This is what she loves to do so thanks for giving her a mission.

Knowing what birds are around there, I now think it may be an American Robins !

The widest part of the bowl was about 4-41/2" !

She says that any of the thrush family, Varied Thrush, American Robin, Swainson's Thrush and Hermit Thrush are in your area and use that type of nest.
Most likely it would be the Varied Thrush or American Robin.

Looks like a robin at work. Is that monofiliment I see there? Robins in my area like their nests about 6-8 feet off the ground. If that one is around that height, I would say robin.

That is a cool nest, no clue what it is. I'm jealous of all of your hikes!!

Temporarily blinded by the last pic, but I'm ok now. No clue on the nest. Looks like the woofers and you had a great hike. Nice knife btw.
