I acquired this knife in the early 80s and it was purchased at a So. Cal gun show from the maker by a friend. I didn't attend the show but was told the maker had many of his custom knives on display and for sale.

Its got a 4" blade that is about .2" thick at the guard and oddly tapers to about 1/8" at the butt, 8 1/2" overall length and is engraved or etched "R BATES".

I'm curious if anyone recognizes this maker or knife. I would also like to know what steel was used and if the maker is still around.
Thanks.
