I run this grinder on standard 115

It's a single phase AC 1.5 HP motor.

I believe you need a 3 phase motor if you want to run it with a variable frequency drive. Larry
 
Not possible, Larry is right. You'd need 3 phase to make a VFD work. You could run a step-pulley system with that motor, is about it.
 
That's a capacitor start/run motor and can only run at one speed. It's still usable with step pulleys to increase or decrease speed. But it is reversible which is nice. I would turn that baby into a horizontal disk grinder in a heartbeat with a forward/reverse switch.
