Anyone like their Kobun ?

appreciate its light weight and overall length.
great that it doesn't leave much if any, imprints.
i would feel fairly secure if this was the only blade i owned.
in hind sight it's the tanto that proved itself to be more comfortable carry than the original 6 inch stainless cs tanto series...

Kobun is great for carry. Just like most all the other budget stainless Cold Steel offerings. Only Secure -ex I have had that seems to dull the edge is on the Counter Tac boot knife.

Grinder mcgee, trying to figure how to pm you, looking to see if u have a cold steel tanto lite sheath for sale.

how does it do on piercing? was looking at one as a boar hunting knife but im concerned about my hand sliding up since the guard looks small.

Dunno if you care or not, but CS actually has a knife specifically meant for boar hunting, called, appropriately enough, the Boar Hunter...and I know for a fact that people have used it for that purpose. Never heard of anyone using the Kobun for that, it seems kinda a lightweight knife for that role IMO.

looked at it. nice knife, but ive got this thing with knives that curve down instead of up. also wanted a tanto blade since the spine tends to run a little thicker.

For the record, the Boar Hunter is thicker in the spine than the Kobun...for that matter, so are many knives.

The Kobun doesn't strike me as adequate for jabbing a boar, with a thick hide, grisel etc. to penetrate.

I held a boar hunter a week ago and it was very light considering it's blade length.

I think poking at boars with a Kobun would be a bad idea all around. Not only the tiny guard, but the handle is also pretty small and thin and the blade is only 5.5" long. I'm sure the Kobun would be fantastic for its intended purpose: compact and concealable defense against people, but boars are a lot tougher than we are, as upnorth noted. If you aren't fond of the Boar Hunter and want a tanto, I'd look into a Warcraft Tanto, or better yet, if you can afford it, the upcoming Magnum Warcraft.

The kobun is a great knife but I'd go with an OSI, OSS or Boar Hunter for your intended use. They would be much better suited for Hog hunting.

depends on the pig, but i have used a 5.5 inch knife on hundreds of pigs..7 or 8 inches is better though..too many good knives to choose from lol..if i had to take a cold steel that i own it would be my san mai recon scout..

Having stuck a few pigs with knives, IMO the Kobun would be the LAST knife, that Id use for that purpose.

I have the Kobun and would quite frankly be very low on list of my knives to choose from for boar hunting.

The CS 'Boar hunter' on the other hand should do the trick.....as should some other CS knives.

if yall like i can show you a kobun will work fine for pigs up to 200 pounds, my al mar shiva has more blood than any other knife i own..the 5 1/2 inch blade is the perfect length for most hunting/killing applications..
you can get heart blood on a cape buffalo with a 8 inch blade i guarantee it personally.
i also guarantee there is no survivability in having a hole in the heart..you would be surprised what you can do with a blade if you know what your doing. most people are not capable of taking a animal or humans life with a blade imo.

I like my Kobun. I'm happy to say I also have a couple of Oyabuns including the Carbon V model.

Very nice, I really wish I had bought a (few) Oyabuns when they were still in production - especially in the old Carbon V, one of the best 'plain' carbon blades steels I have come across.

Just glad I did have the foresight to pick up a Recon Tanto in Carbon V... ;)
