Anyone like watches?

Seiko's Spring Drive is not, in fact, it should be pointed out, a purely mechanical watch. It's a very innovative hybrid and the actual time-keeping mechanism is a quartz crystal oscillator.

I would be tempted to buy a Spring Drive if only, as Mr. Rafael points out, not inspiring.

I like watches. I have a Omega Auto from the 60's. A Seamaster chrono, James Bond style. A citizen diver eco challenge. A Casio solar. A Mortima super datomatic and a few others.

Needless to say, my wife is a forgiving woman.

What watch one chooses to wear depends on a lot of factors: Income, uses, and what image that person wants to relay to others. Like a lot of things in life, a lot of people like to use watches as status symbols as well. It's sad but that's reality.

I like watches but i live in the UK and as usuall we pay twice what the rate is in America for most watches.
Next time im over in the states i will probably pick up a new Tag and no doubt someone else will want something so when i walk through customs ill probably be wearing about 5 watches and ofcourse will have nothing to declare except im a freak and need to wear 5 watches just incase the batterys run out on the other 4.

I wore a $50 Casio Data-Bank for years because it could store phone numbers and had a primitive calendar/appointment/notes function. My i-phone pretty much takes care of everything now.

I do like mechanical watches and have a modest collection. Two of my favorites:

The 1936 Elgin is my favorite because it is in original condition and runs very accurately.

The 1953 Lord Elgin had the dial restored but is otherwise original. Neither is really very valuable but I like their looks.

My everyday watch is an old Seiko SQ 100 with moon phase and date dials. Keeps perfect time.
