Anyone looking for a small double bit axe?

Condor also has a couple of double bits, but I have not seen any reviews on them.

This one comes form Claude Leblanc (The Axe Man) here in Edmonton:

He has/had them custom cast for him and mine has held up well. Last I was talking to him he was getting a mid sized double axe head made as well. He laminates the shafts on his own and does his own leather sheaths. I have not talked to him for a while but if anybody is interested I'll give out his contact info.

I'd like the info, could you pm it to me? I already have a large size double bit, and wouldnt mind a mid size to round it out. :D

Looking around it seems there's no eye taper and the axe is having looseness issues.
At 34 bucks thats incentive for an hours work with a dremel and files to me, though.

Made in China is enough incentive for me not to buy it. To each his own.

Thats interesting. How do you survive day to day?

Has anyone tried the US Steel pocketknives. Made in China for Frost, IMO, great quality. Or the Rough Rider pocketknives. Same story.

Not everything made in China is crap. Some is to be sure. Everything is made there now.

The powertools in my shop... all from China. General, Canadian company, made in china. Delta, Shop Fox, Grizzly, Wilton, Jet, Powermatic, made in China.

I'm not big on their taking over worldwide manufacturing, but damn. Everything is made there today. How does one get along if they rule out buying from China?

I agree FB. I try to buy US or at least non communist but with certain goods it is nearly impossible to find stuff not made in China.

Just posted this over at the axe forum, I ordered one, hopefully theres no shipping problems and it is in fact in stock.
Ragnar has some great stuff!

There was a thread here reviewing that axe. It was for the most part, Okay. They ended up sending the axe to Mike Stewart to be re-ground, and have the head pinned.

After the work, it performed without a hitch.

Main problems IIRC:
Head came loose after minimal use
Edges were to thick
F&F was just mediocre

Other than that, a little work and you had a good functional double bit at a decent price.

Don't sell your GB SFA;)

Threads with additional info on the Marbles axe:

That sounds VERY small.....just a under 3 inches of cutting edge on each bit? That sounds tiny.

Maybe its just perception. Tarmix, how much cutting edge do you have on your small double bit?

IIRC it's about 3" total. You would be amazed at what you can do with a smaller pack axe. Technique is everything. ;)

I guess its just a mental perception and in person I would have no issue's with it.

Yea..... to help give you some perspective, my Scandi Forest Axe, 2 pound head, and 25" handle has a 3 1/2" head. Just 1/2" larger on a full size axe.

Yes, it's getting more & more difficult to get by without buying something from China. And yes, I've seen good quality knives coming from there. So what? I never said everything made in China is crap, nor was it my point. Buying quality survival tools made in the US can be found. That's my point & that's who I choose to support. Like I said, to each his own. The thread is about a survival tool & that's what I'm responding to. Who said anything about power tools????

nice idaho knife works knife..... isn't that the clif model...

i have one of these marbles double bits... they're not bad... mine has seen some light use.. after hearing about the heads coming loose, which was right after i got it, i stopped using it for a while... i did however use it to day.... swings pretty nice for it's size....

Do you guys bevel the edges differently? Thats the whole purpose of the double bit, that and balance.
1 edge is fine for limbing, and 1 is for chopping the tree down and splitting.

I do. The Lee Reeves comes that way to star off. I leave a stunt edge on the thicker side for frozen wood, or rounds with knots. The other I use a mouse pad and some wet dry sandpaper. I finish it off with a loaded strop.

You can kind of see the difference here:

Jeez. Sorry. Didn't mean to be a burr under the saddle...

I put a Lee Reeves up for sale on the for sale forums and got no takers it looks just like one tarmix 101 has. If any one is interesed it is still there just look back a couple of weeks or so I still have it.

True, but for the stuff I CAN find made in US or non-comm countries, it's no problem spending the extra $$$ just to deny their poisoning a$$es.
