Never made a folder. I have made several wood carving knives out of old straight razors. Those hard, thin blades were outstanding for carving decoys out of basswood and tupelo.
My plan is to cut out some steel liners, add some nice scales and enclose the straight razor within. I plan to use the original razor "pivot" hole, but will modify the choil?--> (that sticky-outy-thingy which cradles your pinky finger) so that it can act as a "flipper" to open the blade. I haven't thought much about a lock or release for the blade yet (or if it'll have any at all).
I just love the way a straight cuts. I know it wouldn't be a hard-use piece, but it would be great for cutting cigars for example.
