Has anyone ever made a folding knife from an old shaving razor? I have a few razors and I've been thinking about trying it.

If anyone's done this, I'd love to see some pictures of how they came out.

Never made a folder. I have made several wood carving knives out of old straight razors. Those hard, thin blades were outstanding for carving decoys out of basswood and tupelo.

I made a razor out of an old razor. I refinished and re-honed the blade and replaced the handle. I only use it for shaving, though.

It was a fun project. All in all, it cost about $15 and turned out pretty good.

I doubt that a straight would make a very good knife blade. They're awfully thin and really hard. Drop it once and it's toast.

nice razor rehab

about the only razor that might work as a pocket type knife would be a wedge ground blade but even that would not be great

now you could get a razor shaped folder made and hone it to a more user friendly edge

My plan is to cut out some steel liners, add some nice scales and enclose the straight razor within. I plan to use the original razor "pivot" hole, but will modify the choil?--> (that sticky-outy-thingy which cradles your pinky finger:D) so that it can act as a "flipper" to open the blade. I haven't thought much about a lock or release for the blade yet (or if it'll have any at all).

I just love the way a straight cuts. I know it wouldn't be a hard-use piece, but it would be great for cutting cigars for example.

I'll post a couple pics as I proceed...:)
