We would raise the stove up when it was lit, or when new fuel was added. Once it burnt down to coals we would drop it to a couple inches off the ground. Whole thing would glow red and there was little smoke. The whole thing worked quite well, actually. We had a lot of time to mess around with different configurations. It was a learning/experimenting trip... we tried many different set-ups.
Theres a lot of thorny locust growing on my favorite stomping grounds. They are a nuisance. Ill cut some of them down for lodge poles. Will be a good project for this winter ,when cabin fever sets in. The more poles the better, right?
