Anyone make DIY buffing belts yet? Leather, cloth, repurpose-ing old belts?

Hello BF'ers,
Just wondering if it is doable to make my own buffing belts. I've seen the leather honing belts at Lee Valley and TruGrit, but I've got a humongous strop already.

1. Is it difficult to make your own leather belt joints without all the special skivs and other leatherworking tools?
2. Thinking about attaching some denim or fleece to a worn out 9micron belt... please advise on this idea.
3. how about making one just from a strong cloth like denim, and simply sewing the joint?

There are felt belts already made that will work for polishing.

Myself and others have used buffing compound on the back, cloth side of inside-out regular belts for honing purposes, that works pretty well.

I'm not to sure about gluing denim or cloth to a plastic micron belt... I think I'd look into the felt belts Bill mentioned before trying that.

It is pretty near impossible to match what the industrial processes do in making belts. There are cloth, polyester, felt, and leather belts available for very little money.

I like felt for green chrome and white rouge, cloth for diamond compound, and leather charged with red rouge. The poly belts work pretty much like the cloth belts.
