Anyone Miss the Old Voyagers?

He was cutting a box with it and I was surprised that he had a Cold Steel knife, so I said, “Is that a Cold Steel ?”...He didn’t even know what a Cold Steel was and the blade had rust on it. So I checked it out and it had no blade play what so ever, so I asked him how much would he sell it for and he charged 10 dollars. I knocked all the rust off the blade with Liquid Wrench spray but haven’t sharpened it yet.

I think Lyn Thompson has Tri-Ad on the brain. True, it's a fantastic locking system, but no one was complaining about the old knives!

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely am a fan of the Tri-Ad lock, but if I had a choice between a Tri-Ad lock or a mirror polish on my blade instead of a cheap satin finish or a stone washed finish, I'd take the mirror polish any day! In all the time I've ever owned a Cold Steel Voyager, I've never yet had to pound it in to a piece of wood and have Andrew Demko stand on it! I've taken out some of my old Voyagers and now have right here an old 5-inch Voyager, polished blade, sleek with VG-1 steel and like new clip! And over there is another Voyager 5-inch with the clip molded into the frame! AUS8A blade, and beautifully polished. After holding a modern Voyager, holding the old ones are so much nicer. Oh, and here I've got a 6-inch polished blade that looks sleek and deadly! Yeah, it's only a half-inch longer blade, but I can hold it here in the back and look, ma! More reach! Plus the looks are incredible! Thompson only put out the 5.5-inch XL blade because Texas limits its blades to that. The 6-inchers were definitely cooler and sleeker...plus they were strong.

Like I said, I'm glad I have the older ones. And they're viciously sharp. My new Frenzy was okay sharp, but far from the sharp I was used to. Look, I can even rub my thumb down the sharpened edge of the Frenzy. I would never do that with my old Voyager. I'd most likely slice my finger or thumb open!

If one is using a large knife for self defense, sharpness can mean everything. It's okay if I have AUS8A or VG-1 because they can be bleedin' sharp. And if I use the knives, I can make them hair poppin' sharp again with just a few strokes on a $15-$20 sharpener!

Ironically, the Pro Lite is more of a voyager than the new 'Voyagers.'

I like the FFG blade on the new ones, but those AK-47-like handle contours are unnecessary. They don't even work on the Medium version, at least not in my hand. Having carried a Medium voyager most of my life as my main Edc, I was excited to order a replacement when the reboots came out. But I ended up disappointed. Couldn't even hold the damn thing. Bleh!

So i might try a pro lite. Looks like one of those will fit the role my original voyager filled better than the "upgraded." current versions.

I wish they hadn't tried to fix what wasn't broke. Go ahead and put a Triad in there. Cool. But why redesign the entire blade and handle into something that is NOTHING like the familiar flagship everyone grew to love? And then, on top of that, release an entire different model (pro lite) that pretty much has the original voyagers specs??

Its just odd....

Old voyagers are excellent and were strong enough and very tough.cold steel please bring old voyages back with or without triad lock.hollow grinds are good too.

I miss the more neutral handles on the older models. I tried handling various sizes of the newer version, and none of them felt like a good fit at all.

Old voyager were awesome ,I have xl clip point and el hombre and they were strong enough for almost any use and light to carry.I like their hollow grind and vg1 and for my uses are better than new ones.
