Just wondering if anyone has modified their TAk such as taken off the black coating and put on less tactical looking handles. Also, anyone had a custom sheath made? If so, pics would also be great.

no, but the blade coating on my rat3 d2 is getting rubbed off :( I think Im going to take it all off somehow.

I got rid of the lanyard hole & removed the blade coating on mine. I like it much better this way.
Nice knife !

I took the coating off of my Becker with paint remover, but on the TAK would the same technique work or would this one need to be sanded or buffed off?

Yeah, I would like to know what to use to remove my coating too. I was thinking soaking it in nail polish remover might work.

I used 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper to remove what was left of it. Most of it was worn off.
It really didn't take much effort.
The top of the spine had some rough tool marks, but a little filing & more 400 grit handled that.

I used BIX paint remover to get that stuff off my D2 RAT 3. I left the coating on the handle area so my sweaty hands don't mess it up.
It's different than the coating that was on the TAK...sandpaper would have taken a long time.

thanks again TeaMan :D

I will most likely remove the finish from mine. I hate the Randall school logo on my D2 version....

I bought a great Kydex sheath from OnScene Tactical:

Did a little work on my new TAK blade. I just wanted to polish up the main part of the blade. The picture doesn't do it justice but it looks much better than before IMO and it seems to cut better although I haven't really give it a workout yet. Much easier process than removing the Becker coating.
