Anyone ??Moore Maker - SPORTSMANS AXE 10 in.

I have used a Moore Maker slip joint before. Great knife using great materials.

The hatchet looks to be a nicely made hatchet. 1080 carbon steel, flame treated hickory. Good stuff. For the price if I needed a hatchet, I would get one.

It sure do look like a Vaughn. Even the same cheap sheath. I got one from Forrestry Supply. Not much. Took hours to get the edge to anything decent, and the head was cocked about 5 degrees to one side.

Pretty sure it's a Vaughan. BRKT did market their own, but discontinued when Vaughan changed the design slightly a year or two ago, which seemed to throw a wrench into the treatment BRKT could give to the tiny hatchets.

And they are tiny. They are fun to play with, but I would rather not have to use them for serious work. The Vaughan versions need some edge bevel reworking to be up to snuff. Took me a few minutes with a coarse belt sander. With a file, at least a couple hours. IMO, when dealing with a small hatchet, it's crucial that the edge be as sharp as possible. With a larger hatchet or axe, it might be possible to let the extra weight compensate for a less than fine edge. With these ultra light hatchets, cutting ability comes less from the raw momentum in all that weight, but rather from a keen edge.

I have two small hatchets, the Vaughan and the Gerber Paxe. Of the two, I much prefer the Paxe.
