I'll be spending 2 whole weeks July 20th to August 1st in Winona MN for a training seminar for my job, and will hopefully have some free time to trip around and see the sites, I was wondering if there is any knifemakers about who might like to hook up for a bit of fun:D, or if anyone knew of some cool things to do while there.

You have a real job? Dang, I thought you just freelanced :D

I work for Fastenal. I love it. They have recruited and tapped and utilised my until now unknown master salesman skills. I can sell a refridgerator to an eskimo, a 10 slice toaster to a 1 family man, a geo metro to a family of 10, or a John Deere 1600 Turbo Wide Area Lawn Mower to a suburban housewife.:D

I am in Austin MN, not far from Winona. My shop is ruined by the last flood but I hope to finish the repair works this week... I HOPE... So if you will have time - you're welcome.
By the way, I have Fastenal facility in the city, no idea what it is or what they do, just saw the sign...

There are several caves near Rochester(Lansboro). There is good fishing site on Mississippi river upstream. Some kind of floating raft or something. You might go to Wisconsin Dells on weekend. There are a lot of sites to see and greate waterpark(if the Global Warming permits).

I second the cave exploration!

Unless it has been vandalized (fubar'ed) , I explored them as a kid in the mid-later 70's , there worth the trip, as they almost speak to you form a time forgotten.

Around the caves and the tops of the hills there are tons of fossil remains of aquatic life,,,,,,, nearly 400' above the currant Mississippi. (iirc)

Check about the Dells, I had just got back from a Minnesota trip and the Dells were flooded out also?

Enjoy your trip!

Kevin

Sam, the Wisconsin Dells/Lake Delton area is open for business as usual...only there is no water in Lake Delton since the side of it blew out and drained into the Wisconsin River a few weeks ago! :( Most of the roads in the area have been repaired and are good to go though. The Dells/Delton area did not get it like the rest of my county did, due to the geography of the area.
If you did happen to make it down to my area I'd love to have you over, but all my operations (what little there were) are pretty much on hold to get the house ready to sell. I'm gonna be busy with this crap for the rest of the summer! :thumbdn: I hope you have a safe and fun trip though! -Matt-

My ex went to college in Winona. It's one of those schools where more females than males attend so the nightlife can be interesting. What I mean to say is that the bars aren't sausage fests like in many other areas. The cliffs in that area are great to see as well. Have fun.

Thanks for the tips guys, this will be my first time on a jet, and first time being VERY far away from home, farthest I been from NY is Niagara Falls, yup just a small country blacksmith :) . I'll definately see about the Dells, sounds like a cool place I LOVE caves. I'll hit up the clubs and bars on or near the campus too thanks Garrett :D .

You've got to get out more, Sam.
