Anyone not even use a pocket clip?

Seems to my inexperience, pocket clips only slow the process of getting my knife in the ready position from pocket to hand. I haven't been practicing a long time, but so far I believe a large knife doesn't pose a risk of reorienting itself (blade foward to backward) in the pocket without a clip. It is definitely "more" concealed (my local law). And the awkwardness of having to reposition
the knife when pulled the other two ways is pretty much eliminated. I'm talking big knives of course. Anyone just dump their SD knife in their pocket?

It depends on your technique and skill.

I have a large vantage deep carry rfp tip up. I slide my thumb inside my pocket along side the knife with my index and middle finger outside to the low end of knife then kinda squeeze and slide the knife out right into my hand exactly in position to flip it open. It’s kinda like stripping it out instead of pulling it out by the exposed end as I see some people do.
If you wear tight skinny jeans that might prevent this type of deployment.

with this little Remington 1306. i keep her in my right rear hip pocket while at work to keep my bosses eyes off me.

Small fixed blades, I can throw in the pocket (sheathed of course). But if it has a pocket clip, I tend to use that clip more often than not. Just a habit I suppose. Then my shirt usually covers the knife for discreet carry.

I used to love pocket clips and they can make for faster draw and deployment ( and then there's the great tip-up or tip-down debate) but if you are active the knife can fall or be pulled out and if you have the right pocket and can index the knife ( get it right way up) quickly you don't really need the clip. Others object to clips based on the appearance of the knife being marred and having to adjust the clip. Chacun son gout.

Pocket clips? Nope.

I love pocket clips. Though sometimes Cold Steel clips are too tight or the scales are too grippy under the clip.

Clip for sure, too much other junk in my pockets. Also much harder to lose when I have to be a contortionist. I always know where it is so its muscle memory for me.

^that pic is a non starter for me. The only thing I dont like about pocket dumping is the bottom of the knife slides to the front of my pants , so this morning I sewed the pocket material on a pair of shorts together to hold my knife vertically. That worked but the entire pocket kind a rides to the front of the leg. So Im gonna stitch the pocket to the side of the shorts. Seems easier than fabricating a deep carry clip.

I removed the pocket clip on a 4Max Scout and tried carrying it in my back pocket but it always ended up wedged in my pocket at an angle so I put the clip back on. I like the predictability of where the knife is located that the clip provides and no more fumbling around.

this pocket damage pic came from cold steel clips and aggressive texture under them knives. also some emerson carry. most other brands seem to have solved this but for some reason some folks some to think a clip and texture needs to be super tight and rough as heck or the knife will slip out of the pocket and that is complete nonsense. these jeans are ones I wear in the swamp and have to maneuver and crawl over stuff and move through thick underbrush jungle vegetation. never lost a knife from less tight pocket clip and smoother texture under the clip.

I now sand under the clips and bend the clips looser. tired of buying new jeans all the time.

took maybe 5 years of carry and use to do that to that pocket. this isn't my only pair of old jeans with the pocket destroyed. I learned finally to stop this damage by having to tinker on brand new knives not thought out well when they were made.

Blades with a smaller footprint, I feel that a pocket-clip is extraneous. For the scary-large warblades, a clip is almost mandatory for the pocket, or in a pack-carry. Benchmade clips are usually good-to-go, as are Zero Tolerance. Cold Steel clips are tight, and take a while to break-in. The 4 MAX, and Scout clips were fine though. Aftermarket clips; of the deep-carry variety are also, a consideration. Lanyards help in deploying from the pocket, and you always have a source for paracord on your person. It all depends on the user's personal preference, and wants.
