Anyone Not Like the Skyline

This point has been debated ad nauseam. Actually, technically they are in fact thumb studs. From the KAI USA Website spec page on the Skyline: SPECIFICATIONS: Made in the USA Steel: Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel with stone-washed finish Handle: Textured black G-10 Blade Length: 3-1/8 in. (7.9 cm) Closed Length: 4-1/4 in. (10.8 cm) Overall Length: N/A Weight: 2.3 oz. FEATURES: • Locking Liner • Thumb Stud • Pocket Clip • Flipper
No they're not...Nice new and improved technique though...

It seems like I remember Thomas or someone else talking about the sweet spot when these first came out and Rolex John's video has it for my stubbier finger. In less then one day of break in I can flip my new one just like my old one with it pointed straight up with no problem!

Those pics are great!!
One of my favorites. Id like to see a slightly beefed up version. I prefer a tad bit more weight. If kershaw could make a skyline 2 with Tim's pro series as a template, I'd be in heaven.

Thanks Thomas...but the website still shows that the Skyline does indeed have a thumb stud.

I carry mine about once a week, and do enjoy the knife but dual purpose blade stop thumb stud excels as the former and stinks at the latter.

Does it matter that the website only refers to thumbstuds? I mean 99% of people out there recognize The studs as such and not blade stops. Refine the technique, as suggested in previous threads.

My flipper technique is actually much improved (recorded a YT vid). But that of course has nothing to do with the thumb stud issue - and I think that the majority of consumers (not just the skewed enthusiast faction) consider the thumb stud as a thumb stud...including the Kai website. It seems silly to not simply call it what it is...a poorly executed thumb stud. Even if it was just a blade stop, then the kindest thing you could say is that it's a missed opportunity by Kershaw to make into a thumb stud, thereby providing greater flexibility to the consumer.

I love the Skyline! I have a blem (from Kershawguy) that I carry, a 1760RDSO red (also from Kershawguy) and a 1760OR orange in the collection currently, and two 1760BRNCKT brown with black blade and a first 1760 in transit, and a 1760DAM on pre-order (hope I eventually get it!). As far as the "thumb stud" goes, I don't have any problem using it right-handed; I have seen a video on YouTube where someone employed a dremel tool with a sanding drum on the G-10 in the choil for easier access to the thumb stud, and it actually looks pretty sweet. I plan on doing this to my blem (since there is no worry about voiding the warrantee).

I had one and didn't like it at all. I have very large hands so holding it was extremely uncomfortable. If your hands are on the average side, you shouldn't have a problem at all. I also didn't find the flipper very easy to use; I think if it had a torsion bar in there I would have liked it much more.

I hate the skyline (because I want one bad, but need a left handed model.)

It really seems to be a great knife.

I had a skyline and didn't like it, hay you asked, lol. I didn't like the ergo's at all. I like the OD1 much better.

Is this the thread that I remember with the fussiness about thumbstuds? Anyway, whatever thread that was, it made me start wondering. So a couple of months ago, I made a video:

I have to choke up on the knife a little because I dislocated my pinky sledding. :thumbdn:

Okay, check this out............... I LOVE THE SKYLINE, I would probably rate it as the best flipper thus far, especially hands down in its price point range...

My wife bought my first one 1 1/2 yrs ago, I've cut everything under the sun with it.. literally, lead roof jacks, roofing shingles/paper, plastic, drywall, cardboard and everything in between..

I recently picked up another one that was slightly used here on the exchange, I paired it up to my beater and:eek:WOW, my blade has shrank in every direction..

I will take and post pics later.. not enough nice to say about the skyline....

however it really needs a new clip as it rides to high for my liking, I'm going to try and modify mine for deep pocket carry..

for what it is the skyline cannot be beat......
you can see the difference in wear on the blade

That looks like a totally different blade! It is nice to see and hear of someone really putting it through its paces and still loving it.

I just ordered a couple of the brown handled, black blade Skylines for the heck of it and on a whim. I'm looking forward to them and they will work well for summer shorts with no belt. I'm chock full of meaty EDC's so I will need a few light garries in the next couple months ;)
