Im looking at flatground.com for ordering some O1. Whats their turnaround time like? You know from order to recieved? Thanks :)

I have and found their service very good, I ordered A2 and 01 in the past. If I recall it is about 2 weeks all together but I have confidence in their steel.

I've ordered from them in the past and probably will again. Never had any complaints. There's someone on the forum who is also really good with slightly better prices but I never remember who it is and have to go to the trouble of looking them up.

Of course all of this is only if I can't get it from Aldo :)

Got my last order in 7 days, well packaged.I use them from time to time.Been happy so far.

egroundstock is good also and free shipping!

I get my A2 from them and they shipped quickly

They are great, I buy a lot of steel from them.

Everything I have gotten had been packaged in labeled, oiled and sealed paper wrappers. I even leave them on when I chop saw the steel as they help cut down on scratches!

Flatground has excellent quality steel and excellent service. Could not recommend them enough.

I use Amtek for all my 01. They're quick and they have the best prices I've seen. The best I can remember, I get my orders in a week or less. Always packaged very professionally.

When you get A2 from flatground.com, is it annealed? Any kind of steel I get, I always want it to be easy to cut, grind, etc.

When you A2 from Flatground, is it of US origin?

Where did it come from, who made it...

Does anyone order from diehlsteel.com? A buddy at work told me about this site, and it seems like a good supplier.

I'm sorry but I don't think you understand what AISI means. "AISI" is part of the steel alloy designation, not a manufacturer.

I have asked them where their steel was made, who made it, country of origin etc and they don't really know.

I do know that steels like A2 and D2 etc are like hotdogs. Lots of different manufacturers making it lots of different ways. And they're free to play around with the alloying. Some things, like vanadium, are expensive and there are less expensive substitutes.

Remelts are expensive.

There is nothing in the AISI specification that dictates clean steel.

If you're buying the least expensive steel available, you can't reasonably expect it to be the best.

Isn't flat ground an outlet of Bohler Uddelholm?

They might be a distributor for them. When I asked for a quote for A2 that they could tell me where it came from they quoted A2 from them. But it was several times the cost of their regular stuff. So I'm pretty sure the stuff on their site is not the same thing.

I know it looks like I'm throwing them under the buss. But I've asked them these questions before and was never given a good answer.

I like using Aldo for most of my blade steel purchases. As a buyer he carries more weight than I do. Let him figure out where it was made.

One needs to be careful not to buy cheap import steel that was processed in the USA. American ground and distributed Chinese steel is still Chinese steel.

I don't know where it was made. And I don't think they do either.

When ordering steel ask for the material certs, traceability is mandatory when I supply raw material (ISO 9001-2008 requirement).
The origin is documented with material certs.
No certs, no purchase if origin makes a difference.
