I'm looking at possibly picking one up. Does anybody have any experience (good or bad) with this fixed blade? It looks very similar to a knife that the late Elmer Keith had designed back in the 50's/60's.

I have owned several, and have always had good luck with them. I put zip ties on the sheath so it rides higher, since the low ride is terrible for me.

The steel is a good performer, but the factory edge is bad.

I have always cut off the top guard and rounded the edges so you can choke up on the blade.

For the money they are hard to beat. Buy two.

Thanks for the review. The one I saw on E-Bay had no guards. I think it was called the Warthog IMPACT..? Is this a different model? As far as buying 2 knives, yeah right, I wish!....I'm married!!!! I have to skip lunch and hide my money. If I didn't tuck a few bucks away here and there, I would never have anything to spend for E-Bay deals, Gunshows, etc. I do remember those single days, buying guns every other paycheck, etc. The Grass is always greener...

A little bit smaller. I am not crazy about it since I have large hands, but there are many that do like these. They have a lower price.

As far as the wife, it is cheaper to keep her. :D

The shape of the blade is what caught my eye in the first place. It looks like the Tom Brown Tracker knife someone else mentioned in another post, and the more I look at both the Tracker and Warthog, the more they look like the hunting/skinning/Trapping knife Elmer Keith designed decades ago.

I have the full sized model. It is one of my favorite knives and works great around the camp site. The factory edge on mine was razor sharp as well:thumbup:

I'm a huge fan of Kabar I have 8 of the fixed blades but I don't have a Warthog! Is the smaller version as tough as the big one? I would be using it as a general utility camp knife, not real hard use.

THanks

Jansen

I have this knife with the Kydex sheath. It's durable, balanced and holds an edge -- good value for the money. I think I paid around $55.

I like the ka-bar impact series as all of these are full tang with the gtip scales bolted on each side of the tang.

I have all of these including the warthog version. All of the impact series seem to be slightly scaled down versions of the normal round handled ones. The D2 Spearpoint with micarta scalse is the only full size one.

If you have large hands the D2 Spearpoint is great but the plastic scaled versions are a little small.

I used my impact warthog at work and I love it.plus it slices very well (I have the scar to prove it). It's one solid knife.

I have the folder and thoroughly enjoy it as an EDC. It's a legal length where I live, the shape and combo edge are utilitarian, it looks ugly and wicked so if worse came to worse...best of all I got in the door for around $35

I have owned the full size black fighter/utility for some time and its "of course" a great knife..I ordered my full size Warthog and it came out of the box shaving sharp!...Everyone at my local sporting goods store had toplay with it. It straps to the back of my but-pack perfectly, and came with a great sheath...not only is it funtional...knife/pry-bar/ small shovel if needed...But it is totally wicked in appearance:D ..This blade is a keeper..and I suggest it to anyone...especially KA-BAR fans...I also keep a folding warthog and a KA-BAR Mule in my butback/ bugout bag...The fixed blade warthog is rare because I never even had to slap it to the leather...it shaved my arm directly out of the box...and now all my friends want one!...Its a fighter/utility that I recomend to any one...Plus the price is right also! I already ordered the warthog impact to finish the set;) A KA-BAR is a KA-BAR all the way...and by the way. if you want a HEAVY DUTY shaving sharp semi serrated folder that seems it will last a lifetime...try the KA-BAR Mule....VERY affordable and of course a KA-BAR!:D SEMPER FI!
