Anyone own a Puma Universal?

Hello,

I think the Puma Universal is one of the most beautiful knives around. Does anyone have experience with one? I have read the new Puma knives don't hold a candle to the older ones. The Universal would be big money for me so I wanted to get some feedback on one before I took the plunge. Thanks all.

I have carried a Puma universal for just years in the field. The knife can do just about anything you would like to do in camp. Beacause it's not a specialty knife such as a skinner etc. I takes alittle more time to skin a deer but I don't have to carry three knives either in the field.
You are right about the quality, since 1991 the quailty has fallen to the point that they are just another knife now.

Unfortunately I have never owned a Universal, but as a Puma collector from the early 70's I stopped in the 90's too. I did pick up a recent production stag Duke that was well made (good finish, spring tension and lock up impressive), but it is a shame that so much of their line has seen a dramatic fall in quality. They used to make a fantastic knife that was tough to beat for production quality.
