Anyone own an AG fillet knife?

I like the wood on the Bass Pro filleting knife and it looks to be about a 7" blade. Good photo. DM

I agree! Very classy! I should have bought the one from (name removed to protect the innocent) when he had it listed some time ago.

@ STEELHEADBULLY - Do you get much use out of the fish-lockers? I have a source for them NIB with black handles for pretty cheap. I didn't give them much consideration since I do more catch and release lately.

One thing I was surprised not mentioned. One of the properties of Kraton Rubber is that it stays grippy when wet. The woodies are pretty but do get slick.

Yes, Roger, that is the big plus of the craton handles. But the wooden ones look a lot better. The minus of the craton: Joe H. wrote in an article about the rubber handles, they get weak after a lot of use.

I have not had a problem with slipping on the wood handle because the finger grooves are deep enough to hold a good grip even wet they have fish slime all over them. :)

I have a couple of them. Wife loves them and are near always her go to kitchen knives.

don't think you would be disappointed in one.

Grown daughter is home from Indiana before she moves to North Carolina next week. She wants to go to St.Louis tomorrow so I might try to swing by Cabelas and see what they have. I have $150 gift card. I might either end up with one or pick up my AG Vanguard I've been wanting. :)

MT, I do really like the fishlocker for my once a year Backpacking trip to WY. They are very lightweight and being a folder works well for the pack. I really don't use them outside of that trip, but I also do not fillet a lot of fish throughout the year due to a lot of catch and release, and if I'm at home I lean toward the old rapala wood handle fixed blade....I could always use another Buck knife, but my wife would say I do not need one...The true blue has a nice grip but is way to heavy for that one somewhat unnecessary feature.

I don't know how much you would use the fillet knife. You might consider the rubber handled Vanguard and get the fillet knife with it...be about fifty dollars above your gift card. Then if you had any points on your Cabela's Visa it could lower still. Just trying to help:D. Preston

PS I would get the Vanguard, for sure:thumbsup:.

I get up there once in awhile. Seems a bit disorganized at the knife counter. They had a bunch of stuff in the cabinet and not everything was on display. Go with the model codes in hand to help them find the box in the cabinet if what you want is not out. They were nice but you will know more (about Bucks) than they do.

Well I ended up buying the AG wood handle Vanguard. There is just something about that knife I've always loved. This one I'm not parting with. I looked the AG fillet knife really good. I think I will probably pick one up later this year. I really like the contours on the handle.

Actually I did have $26 in points. The gift cards also were from points I earned from motels and another card I used on vacation last year. I have two more $50 gifts cards coming earned from this years vacation. :) I either use them for the fillet or a different AG. I just really like the AG series. In the end the Vanguard cost me $5 and some change. Not to bad.

Good shopping. That is a whale of a deal. I really like the Alaskan Guide models. I cannot ignore their features. I use mine 3-4 times
a year and never worry about giving it special care. Just hand wash it and lay it aside. DM

Very nice, what's not to like handsome knife! Black coated blade(not sure of the coating), S30V, nice wood/brass and great shaped blade, very versatile. Preston

I'll try to post pictures later this weekend. With my daughter being home we've been doing a lot of running around.
