Anyone recognize this Kukri? Only mqarkings are numbers on blade

Spiral would know at a glance, but from my limited knowledge gleaned from his posts, I would say it is a British Indian Gurkha military kukri Mk. 2 model. That particular model was in production from 1915 through WWII I believe. I am not sure how to date it. I will defer to the experts though, and for serious authentication and identification you should talk to Spiral.

The original M.43 was also a variant of this model, but as I understand it the tang would be marked "M.43" if that were the case. In your second pic I can make out a "3" at the end, but can't read the other characters.

Thank you Svashtar, I am not sure I truly deserve so much confidence though.;) :D

That said although it resembles the mk.2 I would say its probably from a batch that falls outside of the main mk.1 & mk.2 etc. series.

As well as private purchase types many battalions made group purchases of kukri that didnt follow the official patterns & are mostly unrecorded.

It certanly appears ww1 era in manufacture & design, to me & is very nicely made. The 2 part bolster is well done & an unusual feature that sometimes is seen around early ww1.

I could do with a clear photo of the markings as how they are made is the firsty step in Id, what they say then follows {or not.}after that, & at the momment I cant realy make them out.

A well lit photo showing a directly side profile of the overal shape & appearance would be good as well.

Length of blade, , o/a length , weight & distance of point of balance in front of bolster would be interesting. {I am guessing 12/13 inch blade? but appearances can be decieving.}

I am lucky enough to have its provenanced twin brother.

Definatly a type of Angh koala carried in WW1. Very nice.

The number will be the last 4 of the trooper who carried it.

Thankyou Spiral, excuse my ignorance, but I couldnt find reference to "Angh Koala" anywhere. Is that a genuine Nepalese Ghurka used blade, troopers number, or Indian Army regular, using a kukri?
Im interested in units, like Ghurka Rifle units.

Sorry! Most people spell it "ang khola" ! My spelling is rather idiosyncratic. :D

In WW1 the Gurkhas were British Indian Army Regulars. ;)

It was probably used by a Gurkha although the Garhwalli, Assam & Kuamon units also used kukri.

But the odds are about 8 to 1 or more that it was a Gurkha riflemans or possibly Gurkha NCOs though. {over 100,000 were enrolled during WW1 , the other units were much smaller.}

FYI, with regards to the "Angh Koala", Spiral is referring to a rare kukri variant carried by a race of very small and fierce tree hugging marsupials indigenous to Australia. Do NOT even think about messing with their eucalyptus leaves! ;)
