Anyone running a 7inch drive wheel direct drive 2HP

I did for many years on my Wilton. Guess it depends on what you're shooting for. Worked great on that machine, when I was learning and the stock 10 or 11 inch wheel was WAY too fast. Now, I want all the speed I can get, and with a 7 inch wheel and a 1750 rpm motor, I'd still be doubling the frequency on my vfd.

7" at 1750 is 3200 sfm. I've got my grinder set up to do 4000 on the high end and 1200 on the low end. 3200 will do the job.

Matthew, you would double your frequency for 6400 sfm? I can feel my fingers burning thinking about it

Yes I would. Ceramic belts, like the Blaze 36 grits I use pretty regularly, want as much speed as you can provide them with. This is the only time I'd use that speed, but in my eyes it's justified. My grinder is currently set up to max out just shy of 5,000 sfpm, and if I could have more, I'd gladly take it.

Here's the 7-1/4" wheel made by Hardcore, 5/8" bore, intended to slow down the old Wilton Square Wheels:
