Anyone See MA Movie "Crouching Tiger"?

SYK, I saw Crouching Tiger on Friday, and then at your suggestion rented Once Upon a time in China.

I give Tiger my highest rating: two enthusiastic thumbs to the carotid sinus!

I give Once Upon a Time my second highest rating, one hand sword to the jugular notch!

As the husband of a fellow villager of Michelle Yeoh , you must avenge her cineamatic dishonor! I will join you! Sifu (hand covers fist): we go!

SYK et al,

Nay ho! All great points. I'm Chinese and OUATIC resonated with me. For another good Jet Li movie, FIST OF LEGEND, Jet's remake of Bruce Lee's THE CHINESE CONNECTION. Speaking about the "foreign devils" etc. BL's TCC is right up there with OUATIC - "We are not the sick men of Asia." That movie also resonated with me.

I personally prefer slightly more realistic action instead of warriors flying such as Hollywood's RAPID FIRE (Brandon Lee) and HK period pieces especially THE PRODIGAL SON, WARRIORS TWO, THE INVINCIBLE ONE (not sure I have title right - Fu Sheng and Chih Kuan Kwun), THE CHINATOWN KID (story similar to THE INVINCIBLE ONE), and THE UNBEATABLE DRAGON. Many more.

For other "wire" movies, check out Tsui Hark's ZU - WARRIORS OF THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN. One of my favorite Michelle movies (also a wire movie), THE HEROIC TRIO (non-period). You cannot go wrong with Maggie Cheung, Anita Mui and Michelle Yeoh in one movie.

For Chow Yun-fat/John Woo, many like THE KILLER and HARDBOILED, but for a great movie by Woo, check out BULLET IN THE HEAD. For great acting by CYF, nothing beats A BETTER TOMORROW.

I am waiting for time when I can go see CTHD. For now, have not seen it. Also, do know that it is a Hollywood product. So there are yin/yang to it not being a HK movie.

Saw the movie and think its great. The women have a far more graceful fighting style, a lot more fluid than the men IMHO. I guess its because they exagerate movements with their bodies a lot more. They have a dance of death. (hey I kinda like that line)
The men, although quick, make powerful snap kicks and power punches that are more rigid. The men move in militaristic precision with backs straight and knees unbent.

Yes, it appeals to the western audiences.

Can't wait till it comes out in DVD!
