I saw THIS on amazon then went to knifecenter.com to get a better look at it. I had THIS ONE for a little bit before returning it I hated the cheap looking handle and sheath material as well as the SE I hate Serrations on my EDC which is what I will be using the paracord one for when it comes in (oh yea I forgot to mention I ordered one from amazon for a whopping $35).

Anyways I digress has anyone seen this knife in person at like a knife or gun show?

They did its the same knife but the paracord one in the first link has a plain edge blade no serrations

It's overpriced, but the design doesn't look half bad. I think you messed up the links, BTW.

Thanks for catching that Dan I fixed the links now for anyone who wants to look at both of the knives im referring too.

There's better, cheaper and lighter to be found from the likes of Ka-bar and Condor.

And honestly, if I'm going to pay for a knife I'd rather my money went in to design, manufacturing, materials and quality control rather than paying someone for their signature.

At no point during the original post did I say I liked Gerber and their record of terrible quality control issues. However I personally have bought knives of theirs for a while and if it is bad I return it. This particular design I knew from the moment I saw the plastic handled serrated version that I loved the blade shape and the size for an edc fixed blade, but as I said before the handle material looked and felt cheap and I HATE serrations. So this model coming out is something I just couldn't turn down. Besides for $35 im not really breaking the bank! LOL

Now on to you guys saying there is better for cheaper please post some links to some better fixed blades that are close in size and shape to this I am always down to buy another knife!:D

You could buy one of a large selection of Mora knives that are far superior in quality and have better sheaths AND you'd still have enough leftover to buy 100 feet of 550 paracord.

Mora Companion MG knife
Mora Swedish military knife
Mora Utility knife
Mora Craftline series
Mora Allround 711
Mora Robust

the list goes on..

If it were made from a good carbon steel, at the same price, I might think about it. I have two BK14's and I love those things.

I will tell you why I didn't go any of those other routes of course first and foremost is the fact that the blade shape on that gerber just calls to me I LOVE IT....other than that those other knives apart from the moras are at minimum an inch shorter than the gerber and I would like one a little larger somewhere between 7.5"-8" territory no more than about 8.25" maximum the gerber knife fit my criteria. I know there are other knives out there but I like this one isnt that what its all about which one you are attracted to? ;)

Could always get the handled one local and take it back if it is a turd, seen them at a few different big name stores for a while now. Naked or paracord wrapped doesn't make much sense unless it's for tight concealed carry or trying to bring down cost on a higher end knife.

Edit: I should have read original post again before reply :)

The paracord one is $30 and you shouldn't have any issues with the handle :)

Probably will be a better option than the handled version...

If it flicks your switch then the answer is clear :)

I've seen and handled them at SMKW this last weekend. I have to say, I put it in line with the rest of the series.

Something I wouldn't own or buy. The only Gerbers I would be interested in are the Gators and Freeman series. Made in Portland. That'll work. Anyhoo, its just a simple fixed blade knife with some cheap cordage on the handle.

I think there are at least 20 knives in the BG line, along with kits, and baubles abound.

I'm not interested in the slightest, as I see more gimmick than gear there, but that's just me.

If the knife calls to you, then, by all means, pick you one up. They don't cost much, and if it breaks or fails you, then you can hopefully back up and find something with a little more meat in teh sammich.

Picked one up last night, not bad, factory edge wasn't the best, but wasn't the worst either. Stripped the cheap imitation paracord off, and the sheath is MUCH better than the previous Compact Fixed Blade came with. Can be setup for vertical or horizontal carry, and left or right handed. Or the belt slot can be removed entirely and the sheath can be lashed to a pack, or worn as a necker.

Sheath will also work with the Compact Fixed Blade, by removing a small amount of the orange plastic from the front of the handle.

I've bought Gerber for years now. The kids are especially fond of the sweet potatoes and mixed veggies
