Anyone smoke a pipe?

Guess what is gonna be on the Cali 2010 state ballad for recreational legalization?!

Colorado is already there... and I'm already legal in that regard, thank goodness.

If Nobama does anything useful in this administration, perhaps he'll make it federal.

Anyway. ;)

"state ballad" was that intentional, i found it to be quite humorous.

a man who gets my humor :D...actually no, thats not true... i was in a sleep trance this am from staying up late the night before. I totally switched ballot and ballad....Beowulf would be so dissapointed...

but i see the humor in it now...

I have a couple of pipes I smoke regularly. Each with different substances and all enjoyable.
Nothing but naturally grown organic type stuff you understand.
One warning...never try to clean a meerchaum with hot water. The stuff is a substance consisting of ancient sea creature shells, skeletons, whatever and will essentially disolve into a mushy paste.
Not that I've ever done such a boneheaded thing!
Happy puffing.

Pipe smoker here.

Current favorite is Doc James' "Doc's Blend" which I seem to tear through by the pound.

Their Yorktown is pretty tasty too. My next door neighbor smoked and still smokes this going on 30 years. It's one of those smells that triggers memories for me.

You have some fine (and expensive!) pipes there. Before you smoke them, give them a good cleaning.

You should also know that it will take a few bowls to get the pipe back in shape and burn out any foreign residue (which remains no matter how you clean it) and make the pipe smoke well. Hopefully, you have a tobacconist in your area that can guide you along with getting them back in shape.

Like most of us, the reason you found more than one pipe is that the best thing you can do to maximize the life of the pipe and ensure a good smoke is to rotate the pipes you smoke. For me, it seemed like my optimum was to smoke one for a couple of days, then switch. I found three pipes I liked that rotation was perfect.

Oh yeah... and while you are at the tobacco store, you will find many pipe shops will let you have a bowl to sample while you are there "on the house". Take your pipe when you visit.

Pipe smoking got a bit too fiddly for me after I had been doing it for a few years, but I have fond memories of enjoying my pipe with some good bourbon and company.

I have a few pipes, I don't smoke them often, once or twice a month. Usually when I'm putting around in the garage, camping or hunting. Lots of great tobaccos out there, my favorite is from a tobacco shop called the Tinder Box, the mix is called "North Sea"
A drink or two of Glenlevit's is the perfect complement!

I mainly smoke cigars...but do have a few pipes...they are fiddly things but if at home and enjoying a good book there is nothing nicer...I like the long church wardens....they give a very cool smoke with the length of stem...I like a mix of 3/4 of an Oz of Navy Cut and 1/4 of an Oz of Black Cherry...for a standard pipe you could'nt do better than the drop bowl Dunhill pictured...sit's so easy compared to the straight stems for me...your grandad had great taste in pipe's...those are expensive items!
