Anyone tested McMaster-Carr quench oils?

good luck with your forge! are you going considering a forced air burner? i was shocked at how easy they are to build.

good luck

Jake,
I may run a forced air burner I wonder if I can get away with building it like a forced air but running it as atmospheric till I can get a fan. I also see a bunch of different cfm numbers kicked around some say they have a 100CFM fan but have it choked off 50%.

You can not run a forced air burner atmospheric needs a blower. And youneed enough blower to overcome static back pressure thats why you run high cfm and choke it back.

i had asked about cfm's not long ago and i was told that 60cfm is as low as you want to go. i have a 60 and it is pretty weak. but i didnt make the burner "right" it should have been 1.5 inch pipe but i had a ton of 1 inch so i used it instead. it works you can forge and get to non magnetic no problem but you can tell that bigger pipe would be better.

i emailed McMaster-Carr about the shipping on quench oil. they quoted $45 for two 5 gallon pails, or one each of the fast and slow. really not bad shipping considering where i live.

$6.25 to ship 1 gallon to me so per gallon your's will be cheaper than $62.50.
So I'll use a 1.5" ID pipe for mine and go bigger than 60cfm on the blower.
Thanks Jake
