Well , what do you think ? Already done from someone ? Forge welded.......some kind of damascus , cut a piece of the desired thickness in length and make a knife ? Pros end cons ? I think it s cool :)

Damascus like that is made already but thy just forge it down on edge. Working Damascus on the edge like that's is where crushed W Damascus comes from. But doing it how your saying would just look like stright pattern Damascus. And I'm thinking that it would look similar to San-Mai except the layers would not fallow the curve of the blade thy would just run off the belly. My thought is this is the very first step in making Damascus so why not keep going and make it good looking. Even just forging if round and twisting it really helps. I just personally think stright lines on a curved blade would not look the greatest. But feel it's s good starting point for something much more artistic.

JT is where I am - why do the hardest part and quit. Your basic billet would be the start for a bold twist pattern. Forge weld the billet as a square bar (eg. 1X1X8" ), forge to round, and twist the heck out of it at welding heat. Then forge to a bar and make some k ives.

Several patterns of mosaic damascus are made as a block and sliced off as in your sketch, but the length is rarely long enough to make a knife.
