I'm missing the point of having wood as the liner. If it's got nice grain to it, seems like you'd want it out front visible. Now Considering the high spots on Becker Grivory are 1/2, I could definitely see doing 1/4 wood and 1/4 micarta. The glue wood really have to hold though. Fiddle back Forge gets it done. I don't know how I'd do that. Someday maybe.

Oh, FBF gets it done, but Andy's a maestro of micarta. I was thinking the liners with a small bit of natty grain showing, would be visible but you would have to offset your micarta with an subdued color to make it pop.

What do ya'll think about cork? The good stuff, almost feels like plastic.

I'm sure it'd look outstanding and all. What I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around is the flats down in the bolt and nut holes. Someday when I'm less of a boy and better at life I'll understand.

I've always wondered that myself. I have lost some material outta there from overtightening the screws before and then knocking them out once they've gotten stuck. Look down and ther is a chunk of micarta stuck to the nut, so there is some space there.

Stationary router maybe? Collet guided?

Wood would be sweet but damn hard to make...

they would brake or crack easy once your handles (scales) were tightened

A good composite material might work good

Wood liners, waxed or not, seems like cracking is a real possibility when the handle scales are cinched down.

How bout Kydex outer with fancy wood liner for a contest giveaway. Maybe the BH that wins could have thier BH # cut into/through the kydex-so the fancy wood would be the background for the BH # ??? Just a thought.

The only way I can really see it working on a Becker is to glue the wood to the cork/rubber/micarta and then pin the scales permanently on. Glue the two layers of handle material together, glue one side down to the blade tang, drill the holes, glue the other side of the handle scale to the blade tang, drill the other holes out. epoxy in the pin holes, drive the pins in and peen the pins over. I just don't see doing layers like that on a screw and bolt set up. I'm obviously no expert and I'm sure someone will come along with a way to make it work.

Agreed......

just glue your multilayer scales together, rough shape as needed and fit to the knife... you can bolt them like anything else.. if you want the scales themselves to become 'one'...

and I'll have to disagree with the wood cracking, when you mount any composite or anything else mechanical you're suppose to apply even pressure, rotating your torque as needed.. now if its unstabalized, your chances of it cracking have just went up 85% if not more.. :)

I'm doing some burl over g10, micarta over g10, why not the other way around??

wood liners can look great, but myself I think it wouldn't showcase the knife as much unless of course its half the size of the scale itself, and routed to expose the wood...

if you want wood liners you shouldn't have to glue them down or worry about the hex, just drill them out and your top scale is what matters... just thinking out loud.. :)
