Anyone tried the Cold Steel Blowguns?

I just ordered the Professional Big Bore in 5' length. This will be my first blowgun in .625 cal. I've used .40 and .50 in the past.

Are they any good and can you realisticly kill things with them like squirrels and rabbits?

Go on YouTube, type in "Relentless Pursuit Blowgun". Tim Wells(of Relentless Pursuit TV show on cable/satellite) and his brother take a few rabbits and rattlesnakes with one. They definitely kill small game with proper shot placement/range.

Stone cold truth. Point of fact, I always refer to those darts as simply 'nails'. The generic blowgun experience is, as Don points out with those older, smaller piano wire shooters. The CS Blowguns are an entirely different animal and (provided you do your part) they are pefectly capable of harvesting small game. I have taken dove with mine and had no problem with a quick clean kill.

I agree with Don Rearic and Chambers. The Big Bore guns pack a punch; although I have not hunted with them (and would not unless I had no other choice). But I've fired the nails all the way through corrugated cardboard at 10 meters, with enough force to pull the driving cone through, or to rip it off. If I had to hunt with them, I think I'd be well-served, at least on small game. They are not toys, at all. I think they are a wonderful product, one of my favorites from Cold Steel.

No. You will only be maiming animals with very thin wire, and not killing unless you have made a really lucky shot. Even the bladed ones aren't good for much more than target practice.

Real native blowguns used poison to stop their prey, the dart was just a delivery system to break the skin.

I have to disagree on this one.

I have killed many squirrels, and birds with even my smaller .40 cal old blow gun (miss spent youth). In fact, I have killed squirrels with .40 cal beads and stun darts! No points or needles. I have killed a rattlesnake with a .40 cal blow gun (needle darts) as well. (the .625 would have been much much more effective!)

The CS darts, bamboo, mini broad heads, stun darts, and razor heads are a completely different animal (when compared to the old .40 cal I have used most my life).

The .625 caliber darts from CS are heavy, especially the broad heads!

There is a video where a kid kills a rabbit with a stun dart from one of the CS guns (not thinking it will do any harm).

Aside from from hunting, the professional grade blowguns from CS are a serious piece of metal! They are heavy, rigid, and if you swung one with bad intentions at some one you would break bones (skulls included). They have to be held to be appreciated!

With a heavy rubber end cap on, it would make a killer walking stick, capable of real support! The plastic end cap it comes with won't hold up forever.

I bought two of these a few Christmas's ago, and love them!

I do believe CS is selling the 5 footers on special with an assortment of darts for under $30, you know, if you were interested or anything...:D

And trust me when I say, $30 bucks for these is an insane deal. I bought two at about that price (I believe a few bucks less), and they have been so much fun for me and my 6 year old. I have old .40 cal ones that we never use.

On a side note, the nerf darts can be shot very effectively through these blow guns, and that is insane fun to have Nerf dart fights with them! Safety glasses or sun glasses are recommended, and don't shoot them at the face from close range. I can shoot them hard enough in to give you a welt through your jeans if you are close range (these are the soft Nerf darts meant for kids, mind you).

One day, we took two nerf guns, and these blow guns to the park on the huge big toy and had a 2 hour battle with my wife, 6 year old and I (the 2 year old just played).

We were laughing so hard!
