Thanks for the info. I've never felt comfortable, except for O-1, with mar quenching oil-hardening steels.
Hmmm... good to know. I think I'll just stick with good 'ol martensite. I leave the blade in the hot oil just until it is nice and equalized.Troop, I am getting well outside of my bandwidth of competence here, but IIRC, that is how guys like Howard Clark make those bainitic L6 swords. They quench in low temp salt and hold at slightly above the Ms point for an extended period of time.
I still wonder IF you did a wash coat with satanite would it help with the scale and decarb? I'm gonna try it just out of curiosity.
