some of these cheap paramilitary knockoffs on a certain website have all kinds off different scales on them, different colors etc... i was wondering if it would be worth buying one in order to put the scales on a real spyderco.

specifically, i was thinking about taking the scales from this cheap knockoff here and putting it on a black spyderco, what do you guys think? the knife is less than $30, if the scales fit it would be great.

No. I don't buy knockoff knives at all. If I had to have custom scales for it I would put that money towards
having someone on the forums make them.

I think it's a bad idea to support counterfeiters or thieves at all. Also, I recall reading that they don't fit.

It's your knife...do what you want.

I've added OEM scales to a few of my Military and PM2--but spent around $70-$90 just for the scales per knife. But that's just me...if I buy a quality knife I want quality pimps.

If that's what makes you happy, then do what you do...

Personally, I like having the option to pick whatever material want, and knowing that someone took their own time to perfect it. There's plenty of people here than can do that, there's even one right here in this thread...

If the entire knife is $30, you gotta figure the handle scales are a small portion of that cost.
So you're looking at what? $5 or $10 handle scales? Ok. What are they made of?? G10? Are you sure??
They may be inferior to the stock handle scales you get from Spyderco with your legit PM2. And by "may be" I mean, "for sure are".

I'd highly recommend not going this route and paying more for someone on the forums to make you some.

You'd be paying $30 "just for the scales" anyway, so just add another $20 or $30 to that and have someone from the forums hook you up.
You'll feel better about it, and you'll be building good relationships with other forums users, so that's worth something too.

The scales on the knockoffs are not near as good in quality. Here are some close ups. Disregard the writing on there, it was a comparison I did between the two. First one in a genuine PM2, second one is not.

You might be able to work out buying the scales only... otherwise worst case is you obtain a cheap beater knife for the tasks you don't want to put a Pm2 through.

Easy fix with sandpaper or a dremel.

Don't support counterfeiters.

If you like the grooved look, just find a friend with a dremel and go to town on some plastic until you know what you are doing and then groove your stock scales.

Else, save up for some custom scales.

That has nothing to do with the comparison.

I disagree. It might indicate that the holes in the counterfeit scales won't line up with those in the liner of a genuine pm2. Maybe not though; there is some wiggle room on a lot of spyderco clips until the screws are tightened down completely.

Try a set out and report back with a review.

Hmmm. Waste 30 dollars on junk that also won't fit (I guarantee it, no nested liners and different dimensions.) or save up for custom scales where he can choose everything from material to groove style.

I bought a set of replacement scales off "that" site, they were around 10 bucks. They didn't line up at all when I went to put them on my genuine PM2. Complete waste of money, lesson learned.

There is a lot of room to angle the clip on a real PM2. The pictures is mainly showing the smooth transition on the genuine PM2 vs the sharp one on the counterfeit.
