Anyone try using Chris reeve grease on benchmades

Guess I am in for a let down.

THanks

Depends who you believe. I dont think any "nano diamonds" add anything, it's just hype.

I've stopped being a lube fanatic. Just didn't see any drastic improvement. I do use the CRK lube on pivots, and on ZT style torsion bars, but I've stopped lubing washers.

The primary reason I apply Break-Free CLP to my knives is two fold. First, for function enhancement and the long term wear resistance for moving parts that a quality "Barrier" lubricant provides. It makes them last longer. It also aides in the break in of a stiff knife and helps smooth out moving parts.

Second, and most importantly to me when it comes to knives is for corrosion resistance. I know that I'm heavily influenced by my experiences using firearms and knives in mainly salt water environments but corrosion can and will occur with any steel and just the acids in our own sweat or thing's we cut can be enough to begin the process of developing corrosion. Even if not immediately seen. But nothing bothers me more then taking out a knife, mine or someone else and seeing that rusty thumb print on the blade..Completely avoidable.

More then once I've pointed out and shown to the great surprise of a fellow knife enthusiast who will say "I never oil my knives and never get any rust" that on close inspection they do in fact have rust on and in their knife. The cutting edge, the recess of the tang or cutout in lock backs, recesses in the blade toward the end and around the tang, between jimping and a few other hard to spot areas people generally don't look or see. And of course the innards of their knife they never see unless it's taken apart.

The "flowing" nature of CLP allows the oil to reach and seep into these hard to reach areas and places without taking the knife apart.

when it comes to my knives and firearms I like to keep them in the best possible condition. This applies to users and safe queens alike. It's a personal choice and I get not everyone subscribes to this level of care and that's fine too.

The way Break-Free CLP is designed you don't have to walk around with a "wet" knife. You apply, let cure the 2 hour recommended minimum, overnight is ideal and then wipe it off / dry. The curing process leaves a thin unseen protective barrier between the metal and the elements.

Not a lot of effort with a lot of benefit. Especially long term. Again this may seem like overkill but I can say from experience that maintaining and caring for your tools go's a long way in keeping them not only functioning better and longer but looking good too. Particularly over the long term with your more treasured pieces down the line.

I too use CLP on my guns and knives. It does provide an improvement in smoothness for my knives (and guns) and I appreciate the corrosion protection. I have tried a few others lubes, but keep coming back to CLP for ease of use, price, experience and other's testing of the product.

I mostly use CLP on non-framelock folders, but be advised that as a rust preventative it tests only so-so.

Different set of tests and different results.

I've been following the different comparison tests for years and they always go different ways depending. My personal experience with BF CLP has been very positive across the board for an "all in one" cleaner, lubricant and preservative.

If you only want a rust preventative and don't want to use a grease, Break-Free "Collector" offers exceptional long term corrosion prevention.

The reality is that if you are careful with your tools, as I am and as you probably are also, almost anything is going to work out very well.

I absolutely agree and have always said, "something" is always better then nothing. No matter what you are using, That's for sure. Take care of your gear and it will take care of you. Not just a cliche but very true.

Only sharing my experience with this particular product as I have many years of experience using it in the field in what many might consider extreme conditions or at least well out of the ordinary, and can say it has preformed exceptionally well under those conditions. Not to mention the more "normal" or usual use most have.

That's way I feel so comfortable recommending it when people ask about lubricants and rust preventatives. One product that meets many needs and does it well.

Break-Free CLP may not be the absolute best cleaner (more applicable to firearms) or best lubricant or rust inhibitor but overall as a 3-1 product it is by far the best I have ever used. In the areas of lubrication and rust prevention I have found it superior to many other products. Especially with tools you are using regularly and not just storing.

But I do agree, the very little actual time it takes to care for your tools with a little basic matainence from time to time really go's a very long way in caring for and maintaining them, Regardless of what particular product you are using.

All the best!

Got the nano-oil.

No noticeable difference over Triflow or crazy old Esso three in one…

Maybe it needs time…

Yeah, and from The Department of True Confessions, I have been using WD40 on my firearms for more than 40 years and have never had a rust issue, notwithstanding the hate that it often gets on firearms forums. :) If you're careful, almost anything works. And I do keep a good supply of both Breakfree and Triflow (both CLP-type products) on hand and use those on most of my folders.
