I opted for the guaranteed hunt this year as I have access to private property this season. Because I didn't get into the state Turkey licence lottery, I don't get to hunt 'til May.
I was looking around this afternoon and kinda glad I went with the late season. Much of the state land surrounding the land I'll be hunting is flooded. There were still a few cars at the public lots at 3:00PM so there were some late day hunters out.
I stopped by the local gas station/convienence store and asked for a report from the clerk. She said there were a lot of people out today but most were complaining about the swamp like conditions and lack of bird movement.
Heard one shot around noon.
Good luck to everyone out trying to score a longbeard.
season opened today, went out for a morning hunt, and fell asleep, after working the graveyard shift friday night, the life of 3rd shift, but I got four weeks to get one, so I'm not worried.........
I didn't make it today but my Little Bro. (Turkey George) went this morning. I have not had a report from him so I'll call him tomorrow & see how he done.
We're limited to one tom. That is, if you're lucky enough to get drawn in the lottery or have access to private land. Even with private land, you could still end up hunting the post-prime season.
I've hunted the late season for the last three years. The birds are hened up at that time and the mosquitos will carry you out of the woods.
I really need to get back to Kentucky for some real turkey hunting
Starts here in Pa. this morning, I watched some mulling around last night that I could have killed with a baseball bat, somehow today they wont be so stupid. I like the spring season because the woods are so nice and new, But I prefer the fall when I can use my 223 instead of shotgun.
