I dont trust Glocks very much, they need a second safety. Glocks are taking over the lead in accidental discharge injuries and deaths.
Put a grip safety on a glock and I'll consider it.
One problem I have with them is they are carried half-cocked and unlocked, as opposed to a 1911 which is cocked and "locked." My suspicion is that Public Safety administrators are easily convinced the half-cocked striker is safer than the 1911's hammer because they can't see it.
The Walther 99 & S&W 990 are slightly better because the striker is not under tension between shots. Each pull of the trigger delivers a hit to the primer even if there is a misfire.
However, the .45 edition of Smith's M&P can be had with a 1911-type thumb safety. Considering that the trigger on this gun can be trimmed down to 4 lbs, this should behave like a striker-fired 1911, only 10 oz. lighter with better ergonomics and a better magazine. This is just my speculation though - I have never shot one.
