I've had sprint for 5 years now... at first, the service sucked - I couldn't send or recieve calls in my apartment - and no mention of this phenomenon when I purchased it which really blew as I chose a cell over a landline due to equivalent prices... But I wanted convenience, so I went cell... They tried upgrading the software frequently, but it wasn't until I visited the kiosk I got my original phone at (Fred Meyers) and explained what was up - they said it was the original salesperson who led me wrong. They sold me another phone and now I've pretty much gotten reliable coverage here in Seattle...
Now, for across the country - well,I just drove across the whole thing - twice - so I can tell you coverage is spotty...
For instance, I can get coverage all the way across Kansas (I forget which interstate that is), but I can go north one state, and all the way across Nebraska i couldn't get a signal once I got away from Kansas City... Go figure... I also get coverage all the way from Seattle to Cor'd Alene, ID... but from there East thru Montana, Nevada and parts of Missouri and Tennessee, I couldn't get squat......
As far as I'm concerned, cell technology is too affected by distance and sunspots to yet give one service or the next better performance everywhere...
So, I guess it boils down to service and I'm not sure I'd recommend Sprint simply because they really don't care about the customer... just the customer's money!!! Otherwise, why do they insist on such long contract periods and have such high fees for breaking contract...???
