I use mine frequently when I have to cut something that I don't want to cut with my carry knife. I would rather use my multi-tool for such tasks. I would like to see a multitool company use some decent blade steel on there knives.

Does anyone know what type of steel Leatherman Waves have?

I do use the blades to cut stuff that I wouldn't with my "real" knives.

Me too. Last thing I think I used my Pulse blade for was scraping some corrosion off of a battery contact -- not something I would do with my sebenza!

If I am going to carry an expensive folder, I need to have a Leatherman PST....
For me PST stands for Pocket-knife Survival Tool.
I do not need super steel in the Leatherman, it's very nice as is.

Nope. I use the spay blade on my slipjoint for the nasty stuff. It's the only use I could think of for it. :)

I use mine a lot for opening mail and other small chores.for everything else a dozer straight personal

my multi-tool is the pry bar...

the saw/knife are half descent, considering it cost me $20.

anything I'm not about to do with my spydies get done with the cheap blade.:p

I'll use it, but only if I don't happen to have another one around. I find that they're not as comfortable to use as something specifically designed for that task, but I'll admit having the knife on multi-tools has come in handy in the past.

Shootist,
That is exactly how I use mine as well. By carrying a multi-tool for hard use (abusive) chores I can carry an EDC with high cutting efficiencey with out worry of damage (i.e. Spyderco Calypso with a very acute edge or sebenza)

I use the blade on my multi-tool so rarely that I pretty much forget that it's there. I've considered grinding the blade down to make an awl or perhaps a mandrel for adjusting bagpipe reeds.

I also use the blade on my Gerber for things I wouldn't want to use a nicer blade for. Otherwise, I'll just use whatever folder I'm carrying at the time. I'd probably use it more if I didn't have to go through the awkward opening routine to get to the blade. Newer multitools like the Wave seem to have solved that problem, though.

I use the scissors on my Leatherman Micra quite a bit. I've got the knife-blade quite sharp, but I can't think of anything I've actually used it for.

I tend to keep multitools handy (I have one of just about every Leatherman variation they offer) so I don't actually CARRY one, but it's always close by.

I very seldom use the blades, i find them awkward to use(get to) on my gerber.I usually carry a serrated delica and calaypso jr.

The blade on my Wave makes a great beater. I also use it when someone else asks to "borrow my knife"! I am not about to hand them one of my EDCs not knowing what they might use it for . . . especially since they usually wind up underestimating how sharp a knife is !!

Hmmm, hate to post right after the "Anti-Daffy" but it can't be helped I guess. (just kidding Jason!) :D

I use the plain edge on my Wave all the time. Great for doing all those nasty little jobs I don't want to use my GOOD blades on.
I hold the serrated sheepsfoot in reserve as an "emergency only" blade however.

I remember reading somewhere on these forums that Leather man uses 420HC steel on the Wave.

Whatever they use, the blade doesn't hold an edge very well - I'm always sharpening mine.

All the time. Its a scraper, wire stripper, hole punch.Pretty much the same as everyone else, if I don't want to use my good knife for it, out comes the multilock.
I don't put much of an edge on it. Maybe twice a month I'll take a coarse diamond hone to it, then give it a few passes with a fine diamond hone so its not too toothy. When I replace wthis one I'll get one with a saw and a plain blade instead of a serrated and plain blade. The only time I use the serrated blade is for sawing through things that I think will mess up my combo edge pinnacle, when you get to that point, a saw is the right tool for the job anyway.

I am still learning, and will probably get "burned" for asking...but... if you use the multi-tool blades for things you wouldn't use your EDC for, what DO you use your EDC for?

My SOG Powerlock blade does get used (AUS6?), as Matt said, for lots of "jobs". The blade is a little harder to get to than some of my folders, but still gets used a fair bit.

To partially answer my own question, I take folders camping, for all purpose use, or a few other occasions, but my Powerlock gets carried a whole lot more than any of them. - I doubt I'd cut food with it though...:barf:

My 2¢, anyway...
