Anyone use the blades on their multi-tool?

Bobby B,

The first thing that comes to mind for "things I'll use my Leatherman Wave blade for that I wouldn't use my EDC for"

Anything GOOEY.

I recently had to scrape/cut a bunch of pine sap out of a few pieces of lumber, and I used the Wave primary blade to do it. Why? Because I could toss the Leatherman back in my tool box instead of sticking the gummy mess in my pocket!

I'll also use it for more common problems, like scraping the carbon deposits off the bolt of my AR-15, and anything else that you shouldn't use a knife for.

I'll abuse the Leatherman, but my two EDCs I prefer to keep in better condition, and so I'm a little more judicious about how I use them. Do I BABY them? Well yeah, actually I do baby one. I've been carrying my Emerson CQC7b (waved of course) for months now and it still wears it's factory edge. If it ever cuts anything, it'll be BG. Otherwise, I may well die of old age without ever having to re-sharpen that particular knife. :D

However the Commander gets used a LOT. :D

I used the blade on my original Leatherman once to slice an apple, simply because I'd never used it before (or since!). :p

Ken,
Good point...:) I wouldn't want the gooey mess in my pocket either...
I used my SOG Powerlock while repairing my satelite dish (roofers removed it with a pitch fork rather than spend the time to unscrew it:mad: )... I used the blade to stip coax cable, scrape shingle tar off the satellite base, etc. not something I'd put back into my pocket.
Since I work in an office with about 200+ "sheeple", an EDC is not always possible. I also visit customer plants as a QA tech rep, and carrying a knife might be frowned on. The multi-tool is actually encouraged:D

Even though any folder I carry can take any abuse I give it, I use my Leatherman's (Wave or Supertool) blade to cut many things. Basically, If the knife may get COSMETIC damage to it, I'll use the Leatherman.

I just want to keep the Nice Black finishes and other things looking nice.

Course, this isn't to say I dont use my good knives. They still see alot of use.

Heck yeah! it actually takes a hell of a good edge, and I don't mind abusing it. theres been many times out in the field I've pounded the blade of my Leatherman wave through stakes with a rock to shorten them or gain a few more stakes on ocassion by splitting them in half. I especially love in the prehospital care field cause of the plain edge blade, serrated sheepsfoot blade, screwdrivers, etc. It's got a heck of an assortment of tools I've used the heck outta. One of the best combinations I've ever had was my Wave and a Pro-Tech Runt. The runt was so unbelievably accessible and handy for simple rope cutting, etc. where as the leatherman has always done a heck of a job at the extended stuff. almost hard to imagine life before the multi-tool! :D

...not to take a multitool blade seriously when it advertises that it is a "surgical stainless steel".

I use the multitool when I don't care if the blade gets knicked (eg. cutting wire) or for practising how to sharpen really crappy steel.
