I'm considering one of the Photon Proton flashlights, but have not seen one in action. Any users of these out there?

Look to be Tuff little light & bright, I have Photon lights but mine are the Freedom version which is discontinued but never the less Photon LED's are Great ! I would assume the same technology went into this light and will be worth the $$,I am going to look into picking up one...thanks

The Freedom has been discontinued??? I sure hope not!

As to the Proton, I have been eying it, also. What I don't like is the inability to ramp up from dim to bright with the white led. Then I discovered Nitecore's D10. It ramps both directions in white. It's also signifantly brighter than the Proton. But-- it is a bit more expensive. $60ish.

I've carried the Proton. Great little light, as in very little, and very convenient.

I have a proton and like it, however it uses pwm for the dimming (basically pulses the LED on and off quickly). That can be annoying for some people because they do not use a very high frequency and you can see the flashing when the light or your head moves. Other than that the light is nice and robust and the adjustable levels are nice.

I EDC a freedom on clipped on my Super tinker and my wife has one one her scribe , we also have a photonII on are keys and can say that photon lights I have are awsome and I would think the rest of there line is similar.

I have a Proton and a Proton Pro. The Pro throws farther while the regular version has a nice, floody beam. Both can be found for about $40 and are excellent lights IMO.

I have carried the Photon Freedom on my keychain. It was not very bright (about 10 lumens) being a coin cell light. I have since upgraded to a Fenix L0D-CE. It's a AAA light a bit smaller than the Proton. It's not too big to put on a keychain if you really like having a bright light around. I run it on a 10440 for ~180 lumens (on high) I guess.

I was wondering about the 'throw' and Battery life; on the Proton vs other available lights out there that are also single AA battery operated flashlights? I'm in the market for another and was considering the Zebralight 50 but was'nt sure it'd give the best area lighting for the battery life.

The zebralight is very floody and a great light. It is probably more efficient than the Proton. I love my Protons and carry one daily, but there are other 1xAA lights with more efficient circuits and better battery life.

Feel free to elaborate by reposting a thread with this post to start:D:thumbup:
