I have tried the Endura, Cricket and a Ladybug but am not happy. Returned them and looking for a nice lightweight pocket knife for an older man. Don't anticipate any knife fights:-)) I would like Poliwog but cost too much for me. The Delica 4 lightweight looks good and I wondered what you thought. Thanks for any help. The ones I liked in others are out of stock.

In short, people love the Delica. It and the Endura are Spyderco's most popular knives. If you tried the Endura, the Delica is the same thing but smaller. Lot's of youtube reviews on them as well.

The Delica 4 is one of my all-time favorite knives. I think I have 11 of them now (in various configurations). The new FFG (full flat grind) versions are the best of the breed. They weigh almost nothing, and are incredible slicers. For everyday carry and light use, they can't be beaten.

Might be helpful if you could clarify what you didn't like about the knives you tried so far. As previously mentioned, the Delica is basically a scaled-down Endura. Depending on what you didn't like on the Endura (size?), a Delica may or may not be what you're looking for.

I have a few Delica's they're nice but to be perfectly honest I really don't care for their deployment as well as some of the others I have, like for example the 'persistence'.. for the money I think its the best Spyderco has to offer.

Sure its a little heavier, wider, cheaper steel, but its razor sharp and is very comfy in the hand..

my 2 cents, delica or the persistence..

Depends what you mean by "older man". In my view, actual "older men" are not groovy with the Spyderhole when the thumb dexterity and flexibility begins to diminish. For those who are into knives, they seem to prefer traditional slipjoints. I'm generalizing, of course. Just something to consider.

No offense, but at 84 I am as agile as ever and the deployment of a knife never enters my mind as being a problem:-))

Delica is a nice knife. Spyderco I have found a like it or hate it kind of knife. For me they fit me well and have always had good quality.

I have a ZDP=189 Delica, It's a great size for EDC, you will hardly notice carrying it, but still has plenty of blade length for most tasks (maybe not great for cutting watermelons open) the ZDP for me is a bit hard to sharpen, I defintely prefer full flat grind on my folders, so I would recommend one of the the ffg VG-10 delica's should be easier to sharpen and should slice better too, and you probably won't need the stronger saber grind since I assume you won't be prying with it. As for deployment, because of the back lock its not one you can really flick out like you can with some your finger as to stay in the hole until its completely open, for me not really a problem since I usually do that anyway.

The Delica is a great knife and one of the all-time classic Spydercos. I carried one for over 10 years (same one). You are lucky to now have the choice between VG-10 and ZDP depending on your wallet and sharpening prowess, and the standard saber or a full flat grind depending on whether you value slicing ability or sturdiness- in short, it's a great time to be buying a Delica!

Now, how about your secret for being 84 and as agile as ever?

Delica is a lovely knife! It was my favourite! But after it was broken by my awkward friend..... I got Rookie (SC51GPFG) and am happy.... 8*)

Good genes, stayed in shape. Genes help a LOT.

If you did not like the Endura, the Delica may not be much better. It is a smaller version of the Endura. The knives you mentioned are pretty reasonable choices, they are not really designed for knife fighting just general utility cutters. I doubt the Poliwog would be better than the Endura for an older gentleman.

What about a classic Case slipjoint or a Spyderco UKPK? Spyderco Centofante 3? I think the Centofante 3 is perfect choice to serve as a gentlemans folder. Classy, inexpensive, lightweight, and cuts like nobodys business.

Thanks for your help. I looked the Centofante over and the Delica is almost exact size only lighter and blade is shorter so I think the Brown one in that will be perfect for me. It is all personal anyway, don't you think? I see a number I would like to collect, but this one will go in my pocket. I have a larger Kershaw I keep in my car.

Just curious but why do lots of people suggest searching Blade forums using Google? It does not work nearly as good and finds only a fraction of the search terms. The Bladeforums site search is available to ALL members and works much better. The advanced search has many options and blows Google away.

I also don't understand the growing trend of suggesting people use the search. Sure it is good and can find lots of information, but if the person wants to ask the question, and has already asked, telling them to use the search feature is basically pointless. The purpose of a forum is to ask questions and get answers from other people, not to be told to search.

The flat grind Delicas are very nice, great choice :)

Amen, brother. I do a lot of searches, but only for things I really have no idea what they are or do. The forums are a delight to me, except when you get some negative junkies like I have dealt with on another subject. People here are nice and congenial as far as I can determine from the short time I have been here.

I know you said lightweight and this a little on the heavy side but I just got a manix2 and I love the urgos and blade speed of it top pick for me.

I looked at the Manix 2 many times and may change my mind. Weight is really not a factor if it is on a clip anyway. But my main concern was for a small knife just to have in my pocket. I lost mine and am bereft...All of them look good to me! I could get back in the buying mood quickly if I had not overcome that in cameras...
