anyone want to post pictures of traditional rucksacks and wilderness gear?

i have a duluth wanderer hopefully in the mail and on its way to me, once it arrives i'll post a pic for ya.

Ruck sacks.....I've used them alot in the military and thought they were the bee's knees of carry crap around. Then I went on my first camping trip with a ruck style pack(Marine Issue). I couldnt fit what I wanted into it, overly complicated with so many straps and ways to attach other stuff. Hiking it was a please since I'm use to wearing a full flak jacket and having it loaded with heavy crap.

However, after trying out a few hiking packs from North Face and Mt Hardware I saw the light. I bought a north face pack later and it has been KILLER! So comfortable, weights nothing but been holding up solid.

On another note, my patrol packs and such will always take a much harder beating in the military enviroment that my fancy packs couldnt hold up to. The throwing, and dragging, and having tons and tons of gear piled on to it in airplanes and such.

So while it still has its purpose for me, I encourage some of you to try a hiking pack and not a tactical one for 90% of your uses. BOBs I can see a tatical, but if your looking for a good camping back, there are plenty of deals out there for packs on Google Shopping. Try buying last seasons or years model to cut prices

This a French rucksack that I carry sometimes (I used to carry it all the time..):

I was looking at the same Duluth pack, they have a big selection of gear! I also was looking at the Frost River stuff too. Ended up buying an LL bean rucksack w/ waxed canvas yesterday. And a 100% wool blanket today. Started to collect more traditional looking gear, etc.

i'm hoping to pick up a swiss military wool blanket and a duluth bedroll to go with the wanderer for my wanderings :D

I'll bite. I have no idea what it is but going by the looks I'll say a very early Dana Design.

Rivendell Mountain Works.....dot com......... Jensen pack. 2010 model. Don Jensen was a bigtime climber in the sixties and made this pack from about 70 to 81. It was designed around 1965 by Jenson who was frustrated with the other crap available back then.

A couple of old climbers got the rights to it and all the patterns and equipment.
It went back into "production" in 2006. A guy named Erik Hardee builds them at his cabin up in Washington state.

The one in the photo is a custom I ordered, which will be on it's way tomorrow.
1000 denier Cordura with rainproof yyk 10 zips and a custom dry liner. 2 extra side pockets snap on with a special snap system..
2 models available in five sizes.
I had one 30 years ago, until my van and kit was stolen. I got to playing on Google a month ago. I flipped when I saw it available again.
IMO it has no equal. Never will.
Under 3 lbs even in 1000D:cool:

Here's a Frost River dayback and a possibles bag by The Leatherman.

That looks interesting....I look forward to seeing your report on it.

I've got a few -- Duluth Pack Hudson Bay, Timber Cruiser, Wanderer, and a Frost River Nessmuk. Unfortunately, I don't have pics of them, and it's been raining the last few days, can't get a good pic right now.
