I'm glad you posted that photo, Joezilla... I can't believe I forgot about my pack basket!
I bought a traditional Adirondack pack basket when I was a teenager, to use for ice fishing on Lake George. It's getting a little ragged around the bottom, but I still have it and use it each winter.
They still see plenty of use in my neck of the woods, especially for ice fishing and trapping.

I got it in East Germany. I would not think Barthel is a rare name in Germany, but you never know... you could be related.
