I want to try it but don't want to buy 8-10 lbs of the stuff or the overpriced Maya sticks. Will gladly pay postage. Please PM me if it's something you'd consider doing.

Thanks!

I'll send you some, but it will be this weekend or the first of next week, I will have to go get it first. Let me know your address and I will get it on the way soon as I can. Chris

I live in the high desert, Andrew.

Well I guess you wouldn't have too much luck finding any up there:(

Sometimes I take for granted how much useful stuff you can find in nature in New England. I think if I were lost, it would be one of the places I would have to best chance to survive in.

I found smaller boxes available at the local walmart for about $5. Just to let you know.

Nearest Walmart is about 30 miles. Sort of why I asked if anyone had a few sticks to spare; it's not available locally...

I really don't know if I can spare any. ;) Chris

Dang, son, you got you a mess of it. Like the shotgun too if you wanted to send that along. ;)

Funny thing about that shotgun, I have expensive shotguns with nice walnut and engraving but when I hit the swamps that old single shot is with me more times than not.

I wish I could send myself, I have been on the east coast way to long I really miss the high desert. I am doing a year in Korea and then I am going to try to go back to fort Huachuca to retire, me and my wife love it out there. Chris

Got it, it is so plentiful around here I really don't store it, just find some when I need it. I will try to sneak away from work this week and gather you some, I'll let you know when it is on the way. Chris

PM your addy, I can send some of the store bought variety for you to compare. I can have it out on Wed.

Ive been wanting to get some too, just haven't found the time to get out to the woods. It shouldn't be hard, I mean my neck of Texas is called "The Piney Woods"

grunt, I just want a few pieces to play with. Going on an expedition to try and hunt some down isn't in the cards this time of year. I have no doubt I can find some when I'm in the mountains this spring and summer.

dude,go to the section of your local hardware store like LOWES or HOME DEPOT and go to where they sell the grills and you should find a sub-section there for fire starting goods in which they should have good sized boxes approximately 12x12 full of fatwood for like $5.00

enough to last you years and years and from my experience its really good resinous stuff and probably better than what you'll dig up in a log in the woods and its all pre-cut into pieces about the shape and size of maybe your middle finger if that helps.

you can see exactly what they look like on this survival necklace i made.the piece of fatwood can be seen in between the sheathed neck knife and the swiss army fire steel.this is how they all come in the box and there's probably 100-200 hundred of them for $5-10 bucks

northern1, thanks for that tip! I hadn't thought of Lowe's but we have one here and they had a 5 pound box of kindling sized pieces for $9 so I grabbed one. Probably enough to last me the rest of my life. Nice looking stuff too.
