I am trying to get ahold of some Kydex or Concealex for making sheaths, and am having a hell of time. It looks like to get the quality I want I need to buy a huge sheet, which I don't need, so I was curious if anyone wanted to go in on some with me.
I have two possible sources, and I am looking only for the best, most durable stuff, so it would have to be 1/8" thickness (0.125"), We could get a 4'x8' (yes, that's FEET!) sheet from Blade-Tech of black Concealex in that thickness for $88. Alternatively, there is a plastics distributor in Chicago that has a warehouse here in Davenport, and I can get the same size and thickness in Kydex 100 for $130.
That comes out to $2.81 per square foot of the Concealex, which is a great price, or $4.07 per square foot of Kydex 100. Supposedly Maddog has found that the Kydex100 is resistant to DEET which is the main drawback these materials have. if that's so I'd just as soon use that, but I also have to think economically.
I have no idea what the shipping is on Blade-Tech's stuff, and I am unable to download and view their order form. No email returned yet, either. I also don't know what shipping would be to you on the Kydex.
I'm looking to split it half and half, and at this time I am leaning toward the Concealex, but I need to know what shipping would be on it first. So, anyone interested? Please email!
