I love the simplicity of it,and you get crazy sharp edge that bites.Tried some fabric cutting today with my polished edge and its not even close to edge of norton stone .For slicing type of cutting this edge rules!
I got Wayne Goddard's The Wonder of Knifemaking book (2nd edition) and the section on sharpening he uses a
Norton Medium Crystalon (silicon carbide) stone for roughing.
The finishing stone is Fine India (aluminum ceramic).
He used kerosene for the sharpening fluid for years but did an experiment a few years ago with Simple Green as has stuck with using it.
Norton India puts on a real nice edge. I recently bought one and did a review including a few micrographs. Dollar for dollar I don't think there's a better stone out there.
