i need to reface my railroad track anvil and dont know of anyone who has a surface grinder. can anyone help me or locate me someone with the grinder? i live about 30 miles west of san antonio. id also goto hondo or kerville.

Forget the surface grinder. A skilled hand with an angle grinder will do the job just fine.

i like to do things the right way. id rather get it done on a surface grinder. id feel more comfortable about it.

I do not think anyone would tell you if they lived that close to you.
Especially if they were smart. HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!

You need a big surface grinder to do what you want. Not many companies will have such a machine. Commerce Street can surface grind a car.

You migt want to consider getting a pallet and using a freight company.

or just gettign a grinder out and hand grinding it as its just a for now ASO
you can fudge temp. tools to get off the ground just dont skimp if you plan on using it the rest you life

I have a railroad rail that's small enough for me to pick up and put on the table of a radial arm saw. I put a grinding wheel on the saw and cranked it up high enough to just clear the top of rail. Then I brought the wheel down in small increments to surface grind the top. Surely you have a friend with a radial arm saw. My .02.

Amen David. You've gota have a love of manual labor in the labor intense field of any sort of custom making.
