I do love dove hence the name. I like those freze dried soup to kinda like ramen but in a cup. And man a good pine needle tea. How bout you

Spagetti-o's when I'm lazy, rice is always good, and I'll freeze steaks when it isn't too hot out. Base camp, I love a good Dutch oven stew

Are we talking back packing or camping? How do you make rice? Like instant rice?? Or are you talking like the soak kind

Beef, potato and onion dehydrated meals(mountain house).I raid the Scout shop every time I go past.I love those meals.Cliff Bars are a close second. Not much to look at but they sure are good.

Little of both. I don't often backpack with a Dutch oven, though I have once or twice. The steaks I will freeze, seal up and let thaw as we hike, they cook up nice at the end of the day. Rice I've done a ton of ways. From letting soak, to instant, lately I've done the boil in a bag ones. Nice and simple, and easy to flavor with spices or just pepper. I also enjoy drying fruits and meats as snacks/ light lunches. I never could get into mre's or prepared dried meals, so we've gotten fairly creative with getting foods in for short 2-3 day trips. Winter is great, can take in anything you want frozen

hey been looking around for a good knife for a while and rounded it down to either, SOG seal pup elite or RAT/ESEE RC-4, any suggestions?

Thanks, alex

Haha you come to an esee forum and ask if you should get some thing else rather than esee. I love sog though. I have neither so no first hand

Fajitas!! The best end of day meal. Take frozen meat and let it defrost on the way. Just need to carry a few tortillas and you are set. Skillets are easy carry to boot.

Yup, nothing wrong with that, after all, who is gonna know RC's blades best?

Actually both are fairly decent blades, I don't think that you can go wrong with your pick. For me, I don't care for the SOG, nothing to do with the quality of the knife, it just doesn't "fit" for me. I use mine as a loaner blade now, because it will take a beating, and I don't really care if it damaged. The RC-4 is an excellent blade, works and wears very well. Top notch customer service from ESEE.

Only real downside to getting the RC would be that it will make you want to buy ALL the RC blades. :D

Yea, I've seen the owners themselves recommend other brands. One of the popular setup recommendation around here is. $9 tram machete and a small old timer pocket knife. Isn't much that set won't cut

If I'm not mistaken alot of the SOG stuff is made in chiwan nowadays. Not saying that's a deal breaker as far as quality is concerned but I buy american as often as possible.

On top of that, I prefer a more utilitarian blade design than the SOG offers. That dramatic sweep, unnessesary pointed hump on the spine and clip point do nothing to aid in function for what I use a knife for.

Lastly, I prefer full, exposed tangs on my blades. Not to say they are always stronger but they just inspire more confidence for me personally than a stick tang.
