Anything new in the knife world?

I'm sorry but how exactly do the Wegner scissors self sharpen?
If you click on the links above there's a write up. I think English isn't the reviewers first language though.
Ex.
It got micro serrations and it is self-sharpening.

I see them saying that "it has micro serrations and is self sharpening" I just don't understand how.

I'm starting to believe it is a dubious claim like those serrated knives that never need sharpening because they sharpen themselves as they cut - as seen on T.V. infomercials.

Check out the g&g hawk knives. Also blunt cuts Crystal weaving foundation ht thread. G

Further applications of metallurgy with respect to dialing in heat treatments combined with field testing. Properly maintaining high carbide edges, the introduction of SPS II stones.

Years ago i had a small kitchen knife that sharpened itself as it was slid back into the holder that could be mounted to the bench/ect, I gave it to my sister, I wonder how long it was before the blade wore out.

John.

I mean besides new steels and materials, is there really anything fundamental that is new today?

To me...not really. Everyone still seems to think that the titanium frame lock flipper that came on the scene how many years ago now is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and, as long as people are buying those things like crazy (even sprint runs and LEs..."Oooh! this one has green screws! Buy! Buy! Buy!"), there hardly seems much reason for makers to make anything else.

Except maybe a new color screw or scale. :D

I would love to see some new hotness. Haven't in a while.

My understanding is -
The serrations are staggered so that they fit together like zipper teeth. As they are opened and closed they brush past each other in a way that straightens small rolls at the edge and/or removes small burrs.
In my experience they stay sharper longer than the plain edge victorinox scissors. YMMV

The way scissors work isnthe flats scrape against eachother. In order to sharpen scissors you would have to work on the side of each blade that has the bevels. In this case that is the sides swith the serrations. Then after you have ground the bevels maybe closing and opening the scissors a few times could knock the burr off the flat side. In that case any scissors with tolerances tight enough between the flat side of each blade could knock the burr off.

Anyone who has sharpened chisel ground knives will know what I mean.

It seems to me that there is no way that these wegner scissors are actually sharoening themselves through use.

I get wary whenever I see a bladed item advertised as being "sharpened through use"

Haha. Yes, I agree totally.
