There's an advantage to not being able to afford to just go out and buy the latest knife (or whatever) that takes my fancy: There's
always one-or-more of whatever I'd like to have, but I'll just have to wait for

.
I started "collecting" good knives a bit over two years ago. I started with a Spyderco Delica 4. (Still the knife that sees the most pocket time.) Since that time I've purchased another five knives, the last of which was just today: I finally broke down and bought a Benchmade Mini-Grip.
I'd second the sharpening suggestion. My knives were boring me. But I quickly realized part of the reason for that was they were no longer sharp! (That happens when you use 'em, I guess

.) I hadn't had much luck with the Sharpmaker on my first go at it, but I did this time. The two knives I sharpened aren't as hair-popping sharp as they were out-of-the-box, but they
will dry-shave again, which is a damn sight better than the butter-knife edges they had. And now, guess what: I like 'em all over again

.
In fact: I'm going to go grab that Sharpmaker and my CRKT S2 and tune that one up. Last time I think I left a bit of a wire edge on it, and now I know how to fix that. (Well, I more-or-less knew all along--I just didn't put that knowledge into practice.)
