Anything New Out There?

Limberline Timberlite - for a "good time" and to avoid boredom, hunt down one with clear handles that shows the mechanism
:)

I would like to see just a picture of a transparent-handled Timberline Timberlite.

Huh, I wonder who might have one of those?

The clear handles were generally used as dealer demos and had unsharpened blank blades. But some were made with actual blades and sold retail.

I have also recently learned that the Timberlites were contract made by Camillus Knives.

There's an advantage to not being able to afford to just go out and buy the latest knife (or whatever) that takes my fancy: There's always one-or-more of whatever I'd like to have, but I'll just have to wait for ;).

I started "collecting" good knives a bit over two years ago. I started with a Spyderco Delica 4. (Still the knife that sees the most pocket time.) Since that time I've purchased another five knives, the last of which was just today: I finally broke down and bought a Benchmade Mini-Grip.

I'd second the sharpening suggestion. My knives were boring me. But I quickly realized part of the reason for that was they were no longer sharp! (That happens when you use 'em, I guess :p.) I hadn't had much luck with the Sharpmaker on my first go at it, but I did this time. The two knives I sharpened aren't as hair-popping sharp as they were out-of-the-box, but they will dry-shave again, which is a damn sight better than the butter-knife edges they had. And now, guess what: I like 'em all over again :).

In fact: I'm going to go grab that Sharpmaker and my CRKT S2 and tune that one up. Last time I think I left a bit of a wire edge on it, and now I know how to fix that. (Well, I more-or-less knew all along--I just didn't put that knowledge into practice.)

Actually, as the days are getting shorter, I'm spending more time on my other hobby. Flashlights. Since everybody I know has a knife, now they'll also have a flashlight. Knives and flashlights are a lot alike because they have to fit a personality. There's no sense giving someone something they'll never use.

Popcornpicker, I hear ya. For a while I was into live recording ("taping") and high-end headphones. Then I gradually lost interest and got into knives, then flashlights and guns. However, once the gun safe was full, I really felt myself drawn back to knives. I still carry and use my EDC flashlight every day, but I'm just not passionate about it like my drawer full of knives.

You know what? Interests change. It's OK. Knives are cool, but maybe you end up gradually selling off all but a few keepers and making fewer knives, then 3 years later find yourself reading BF again.

I got into flashlights--briefly. Didn't take me long to figure out they mostly fit into one of two categories: Relatively inexpensive off-shore flashlights that aren't dependable or hideously expensive off-shore flashlights that aren't dependable. That cured me of the flashlight addiction--real quick. I still check in from time-to-time, but rarely do I stay and even more rarely am I tempted to buy.

Firearms: I can neither afford to buy nor, anymore, very often can I afford to shoot. I just spent $56 on a Mini-Grip. If I take care of it that knife will last me the rest of my life. That's one trip to the range at today's ammo prices.

One can always find a reasonably affordable knife of decent quality to add to ones collection. Or at least I've always been able to do so.

These are excellent observations (and a big reason I shoot so much .22 :D )

What attracted me to flashlights at first (aside from the obvious utility) was your first category, relatively inexpensive flashlights. I was getting burnt out on knives, feeling like if I couldn't scare up at least $100 in the hobby fund (mostly by selling off other items), then I couldn't expereince the thrill of shopping for anything. But here, with flashlights, there are plenty of $15-$20 fixes. There are precious few knife knut fixes that cheap (aside from Kabar Dozier, eBay SAK, Mora, Opinel, and now, Byrd).

But I keep coming back to knives. OP, anything new? Sure, at all price points, as discussed above.
