I've recently discovered the amazingness of Busse's thanks to Bladeforums...but unfortunately I could NEVER afford one...

I know I'm going to get the answer that nothing could compare to a Busse, which is probably very true, but is there anything similar for around $100?

Man oh man those things are insane.

If you like bowie blades get the Scrap yard Regulator, I just got mine and can not say enough good about it. Also look at Swamp rat, all are busse products and all exceptionally good.

Ontario RTAK II. These were sold for $60 new at one point. Good deal.

Or better yet save up a bit more and get ESEE Junglas

Both Swamp Rat Knife Works and Scrap Yard Knives are owned by Jerry Busse. They provide extremely hard use knives at more affordable prices compared to Busse. Scrap Yard will be closest to the price range you're looking for. They have their Regulator Overrun availble for $99 before shipping and without a sheath. It's another $10 for a sheath:

My first suggestion is to save for the Busse.

However, for less than $100, the KaBar Becker Bk9 might hold you over till you put away enough for the Busse... and, it comes with the little blade too. There is a destruction/test video of this model on YouTube also that you might want to check out.

Honestly, I don't think I'd ever want to drop that much on a blade. I can't kid myself either, I rarely use fixed blades that are that big, it would just be sweet to have. That KaBar looks nice too though.

Well . . . yes and no. Swamp Rat is owned by Jerry's wife, Jennifer and Scrap Yard is owned by Jerry's brother, Dan. Having said that, there's little doubt who the power behind their thrones is . . . particularly since knives produced by both those companies are manufactured exclusively in facilities owned by Jerry using heat treatment methodologies proprietary to Jerry.

IMO, Beckers, Rangers and ESEEs are the best bang-for-the-buck hard-use production knives on the planet. Scrap Yard also makes great, affordable hard-use knives on a limited-production basis. You can't go wrong with any of them.

My mistake, thanks:thumbup:.

You can't make poor choice if you buy Busse or Busse-kin knife.

I own Busse GameWarden, Busse Cultellus and modded Scrapyard Dumpster mutt. Excellent knives. INFI is addictive stuff... But suggested Otanrio Rat's are excellent choice as are Becker's. That was my line: Becker -> Scrapper -> Busse

ESEEs (formerly Rats) and Beckers are very hard to beat. Great knives whose makers stand behind them. You really can't go wrong with either brand.

ESEE's are starting to get up over $100, so I'd say the best bang for the $ would be a Becker (Made by Ka-Bar). They're good, solid knife & their 1095 Cro-Van blade steel is very good. I do prefer the steel in my Camillus Becker, but those are getting harder to find & can be over your $100 price-point.

Also, while not necessarily similar, John Greco's FBs are also alot of bang for the $, too. I just picked up 2 of them (A Whisper CT & Dangler in SS) & have $100 in the pair. But they are very different knives than ESEEs, Becker's, etc.

I would go with ESEE while saving up for BUSSE.

But I joined these forums when I finally saved up enough money to buy one expensive/high quality knife. Unfortunately for my wallet the knife was BUSSE. And somehow I ended up buying two of them from the start...Anyway I have few BUSSE's still but I would suggest you save up, they will make you feel happy if you get em.
